Thanks for the update. for ones that feels bit compressed, have you tried soaking them in alcohol and wintergreen oil for a day? Solution is 1:3. wintergreen oil to rubbing alcohol. Good for the rubber velocity stacks and carb boots too. they go from hard as rock to like new in 24 hrs and they stay like that. they also don't turn to goo if you leave them in too long.

Im doing my Velocity stacks now along with that triple joined Oring gasket that seals the fuel tap on the tank

I know all to well how an idea can sometimes manifest itself into a "What was I thinking?" moment. The thing is, you never really know, until you give it a go and can see it. In those situations, when I'm just trying to get an idea of the feasibility of something, I just make sure I can get back to square one without any bloodletting. What you did with those covers was simple, but perfectly executed. Quite often, the beauty is in the simplicity.

Coolant system is back together with all new seals / o-rings. Feels good to have that done. Seals on the head coolant pipes crumbled when I went to lever them off. Yikes.
Carbs are apart and clean. Gonna wait for the new o-rings I think. Plus I have some .5mm washers for needles on the way. Apparently I had exhausted my inventory last time.

Well that SUCKED. But 30+ years of chain grime is gone.

Bearings are clean and ready to be repacked. Finally time to start going the other direction... putting parts ON.

Swingarm and linkage bearings all cleaned and repacked with Bel-Ray waterproof grease. Assembled and torqued. The rear shock fit perfectly. +5mm ride height. The preload adjuster is sweet, I'll be able to make adjustments by just removing the battery.

The only bummer... I'll never see it again after everything is packed back in around it.

Excellent progress. Chain lube spooge is the worst, plus folks have a tendency to use way more than necessary. The pin style preload adjusters are so much nicer than the old lock ring, c spanner style. The older style invited the ham fisted to pound on them with a hammer and punch, which subsequently, ruined the adjusters.

Very Nice Captain....does the braided steel clutch line improve clutch "feel" ?

I guess theoretically (and I'm sure it does a little), but there's just not the same pressures being exerted like on brake lines where the difference in feel is dramatic. Don't think I've ever thought, "whoa" after installing a braided clutch line, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

New steering head bearings installed. Just need to pack the bearings and do some re-assembly. OK, NOW the bike can start getting bigger again.

Oh yeah, gonna be sweet. 1994 CBR1000F tubes in 1991 VFR lowers. Upgraded springs. 3.5x17 CBR1000F wheel, 120/70-17 Michelin Radial.

Just need to get our new lathe set up at work for a little machining on a rear hub and make some spacers to fit the VTR1000F 5.5x17 rear wheel.

Size#007V = 5/32 ID x 9/32 OD x 1/16CS. Have to be stretched on a little, but you don't feel like you're going too far. Perfect fit with a slight smear of Red Rubber Grease. Good positive engagement. Bag of 50 for a couple bucks.

Got some shit done before going to dinner last night. Carbs rebuilt, documented and bench synched. Drilled one size up on the pilots and shimmed the needles .5mm.

Installed in bike with cables routed.

I was all done enjoying a beer and checked my parts boxes... I forgot the spring on the remote idle adjuster cable!!! So I GOT to pop them back out of the boots, install the spring and the wrestle them back in. Now it was REALLY time to get ready to go. Air box will go back on this morning. Looks like some 60 degree weather heading our way later this week so I can spray some black on the upper cowl stay and start re-assembling the front.

Finally got the lathe setup up at work. I took 9mm off of the sprocket mount face, modified the VTR1000F inner hub spacer to suck the hub in a millimeter (mostly for looks), and a 13mm outside hub spacer.

It's driving me crazy to test fit, but I have to get ready for a dual sport camping trip this weekend outside of Leavenworth. Had a little work to do on the XL600R and I better do a shakedown run this evening and get some shit together so I'm not doing it all Thursday night.
