This is what they said about the Aprilia when Max was winning on it - but, when Max and Sylvain got off it, suddenly it wasn't fastest anymore... I think there's something to be said about getting the bike to be fastest in a strait line.

Total BS? Why? It's based on the production bike value and has prevented teams from gaming the system, and kept the racing close...

    We will see.

On satellite teams, which from what I read, is why he didn't do it - because he didn't want to go from dominating to fighting mid-pack. (Which is where I lost a great deal of respect for him...)

WSBK could happen within the next 5-10 years, but MotoGP, I think is dead to the US for a while longer... Unless some crazy talent comes along and blows people away, and (motorcycle racing) politics gets involved (Dorna would love to have a US based rider), then maybe.

And, by the way, I hope Johnny does come back and challenge Bautista - because I don't want this to cement the views of the MotoGP team-managers...

Aprilia was forced to make changes to their engine......I'm sure the information is available somewhere online. Had little to do with the riders that followed Biaggi.

Why?, you ask, do the math. Ducati has 1,750 rpm rev ceiling advantage.

The passing of Pete Lentz, and the injuries to Spies, pretty much sealed the future for the US in MotoGP.

I concede that the rev rules are legal and date to 2018, so the other manufacturers could have sunk millions into new engines too but that was not going to happen. The new duc engine is a gp based engine and it is making a lot more power. We will see if Dorna restricts them. Maybe Honda will bring back a big twin and Dorna will allow them to be 1200 cc's. lol
You have to admit though that it sure looks like a bit tipped to Ducuti. Remember the 851 vs the 750s? Then the 888s vs the 750s. Then the 916 vs the 750s and 1200s vs 1000s?

I do, and I also remember the RC51... As you say, the rules are the rules, and everyone knows them. Why hate on someone for doing it better than their competitors? If Honda decided to take advantage of the rules, I doubt everyone would be like "Oh, now Honda is 'cheating' and it's so unfair to everyone else"...

The fact that a "MotoGP" based engine is in a street bike and available to us to go purchase and ride, is a great thing, not a bad thing...

My point in this case is; at least someone is still spending money on developing sport bikes and not only on scooters...

Oh I don't hate the Duc, not at all, I love the bike. Just like when the Ape V4 came out, love that bike too. I just want good up front close racing without the governing body leaning one way or another. If Honda finally came out with the unicorn V4 and it was mopping the field with what seemed like a skew in the rules for them and they ran away with races, I would say the same things. I like Rossi but did I like the "Saturday night special" tires? Not so much.

One thing for sure, if Rae is going to get a 5th consecutive title, he'll have to fight for it this year. Although these first 6 races seem to say bad luck or restrictions for Ducati will be the main way for him to do so.

That being said, what you all think of the Super Pole Race? I wasn't sure about it at first but since the outcome of this race dictates the first 9 positions for the start of Race 2, I prefer it over the automatic inversion of the grid they did last year.

I like them too; and I also didn't think I would. I agree on the automatic inversion thing - this is much better - but, also I like them going flat-out and not having to conserve tires.

Does anyone know, I actually haven't looked this up [EDIT: after I posted this, I tried to look it up, but couldn't find it one way or the other]; do they get to pick whatever tire they want, or are they restricted to what they ran in race 1? Cause I would think if you had to use the hard (let's say) to make it through the longer race, you might be able to make a medium or even soft work for the Superpole race... I don't recall hearing the commentators make any comments during the race that anyone took a chance going on a softer compound, reason I'm asking...

How many times we hear "I had to keep the pace, because I had to ensure my tires would make race distance..."? Well, now you don't (at least for one race), so you'd think someone would let it all hang-out and really go for it!

So far, everything's been status quo in the SP race; but, I gotta think as the year goes on, it might shake things up.

That is a good question Echo, I really don't know. I think they are probably what they run the full race with. It would give them some info that is very close to full race time on how the tires are handling current conditions. I really like the SP.

It would stand to reason that you would use the softest tire possible to go the distance of the race. However, chassis setups don't always work the best with the softest tire.

While at Phillip Island during the weekend they interviewed the riders live, and a few of them said it was going to be great to have a race without worrying weather the tyres would last.
So my guess is that they have available the same tyres as in the full length races.

My guess is that they use the tires they are going to full race on, get some good info by being able to rip on them for 10 laps.
