Wow has this thread been going for ten years ? impressive,
My two cents worth is this,
I have been a motorcyclist for nearly 50 years, I ride a Harley at the moment & really enjoy it, I an also looking to buy a VFR750 and am really looking forward to owning one, I love riding my dirt bikes & would quite like to have a crack at trials riding, been riding Japanese road bikes all my life as well, I liked them all,
As in all walks of life you meet some amazing people riding all sorts of machinery & some complete wankers, I despise the wannabe' Harley riders and also the sport bike riders who ride the road like a track day , but you take the good with the bad,
We had a ride last week, my Street bob. an MT03, GSXR150, KTM RC390, Yamaha R3 , Harley VROD, Honda CBR500, Yamaha MTM660, all of them good bastards & don't give a shit what other people ride,
If we all just ride for the love of it and completely ignore all those wannabe bikers/ Valentino Rossi's maybe the'll all just piss off and leave us to it !

So scotto you are still biting like a great white on a whale carcass. Well done.

I do hope you understand that normal adults don't need to make absurd threats over internet discussions. With the level of self control you show I really don't think you should be allowed near a firearm at any time.

Apropos of nothing; You seem very obsessed with nelix's arse. I would think that if he came to see you his main concern would be keeping his back to the wall.

    You noticed that too?
It's cool, I've been to Wales and emerged unbuggered.

There do seem to be some anger management issues here, perhaps the biting helps.

Oh I dunno, the drama seems quite fitting in a HD thread. ;-)

I miss him too. Very intelligent and the best internet fisherman around. Perhaps this angry Scotto is BB's new character. Notice how the Cat Man disappeared at the same time as BB? Throat punch away Marine. Notice the "M" please.

When all the boomers are gone, I'm picking up a clean low milage Road King at a good price. Looks like a nice bike for going slow.

The length of time they have existed has nothing to do with how long they will continue to do so. Times change and Harley don't. They may well survive but the signs are not good.

You may well be right, any company can go tits up but having survived over a hundred years is nothing to be sneezed at, all companies go through there ups & downs but you would be a brave man to wager they will be gone anytime soon.

Don’t forget they almost went away back in the 80’s, then president Regan decided to put a tariffs on any imported bikes over 750cc and according to quite a few, this plus some infusion $ helped save Harley. As far as companies being around for a long time, look at Sears, they’ve been around for quite a while too but are not doing well at the moment. They may be going away soon too. They’ve closed a few stores already and the one closest to me looks to be next.

The way people shop and what they are shopping for can be the death for some companies. There’s a huge list of stores that have gone away, probably due to the Internet and the way one can get something delivered and returned all without having to step a foot outside their door. Good, bad or indifferent, Amazon has been blamed for the closing of several businesses but that’s the way things seem to be moving towards. Not that people would be shopping for bikes via Amazon but you never know what the future brings.

Dead right, if it hadn't been for government intervention I think Harley would have been gone for sure, according to them it was them that that told the government to relax the tariffs, how true that was I don't know, Levis are a mere shadow of what they used to be, car dealers are changing how they sell cars after a hundred years of pointy white shoes, I don't think there has ever been a company so successful in creating a hardcore following, whether that will continue to be the case is anyone's guess but it sure as shit worked so far.

Self-proclaimed "tough guys" will have to find a new symbol that identifies them as such. Some on here even believe being on a VFR forum makes them "t0ugh guys" but they are to be laughed at.

Rode up behind a PU truck yesterday with a Harley Davidson rear window sunscreen and he speeded up. No problem with me since I wanted to go a little faster. He must have gotten tired of a rice burner being behind him so he slowed and waved me by. I guess he had a Harley engine in the thing and realized that he was over-driving the POS. LOL!
