So I was in our barn /garage where we have our workshop with my wife today and we were sitting in front my my 02 VFR800 and other projects, talking and have a few beers (as you do) and we started talking about how much KW/HP could you get out of a VFR800 engine? lets just say for imaginary purposes you had a LOT of money and you wanted to take that bike and engine and build a track bike ( not that you would but we are playing a game here).

I wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

So money is no option, build away, you can do with that V4 engine, make any adjustments computer/electronics wise to get as much out of that engine as you could. what do you think it would be?

    150hp?

    175hp?

    200hp?

I think there is one person here who might pop in with some qualified suggestions. I'm still looking for the dip stick to check my oil so I won't have any suggestions that may help with this challenge.

Well the VFR750r (RC30) i believe made about 150-160 & its successor the RVF750 (RC45) eventually got to about 190.. BUT there is now supercharging !!

I think the vfr800 supercharged gets to about 175 - 185 & this is with a STANDARD ENGINE...

If money is no object look no further than MotoGP. Although actual numbers aren't made public, close to 300 hp is hinted at these days....but I'm not sure how much of the actual OEM components would be left. You didn't stipulate any parameters, other than cost was not an issue and V4.

Supercharging a standard engine is a recipe for a short, but powerful life, but then again, if money is no concern, you could just buy a container load of engines and keep swapping them out when you grenade them. Better have a container load of frames for when you start twisting them into pretzels as well.

All bullshitting aside, it's a relatively simple process to get to 120+ djhp, 6g vtec engine, degreed standard cams and valves, standard ignition, tuned FI with pc3. But you need to have the right "guy" holding the porting tool.

Edit: Removed unnecessary and potentially flammable comment regarding dyno numbers. I should do a btter job of keeping my thoughts to myself. Please carry on the conversation.

thanks guys, it was a fun conversation at home about it . @Diving Pete I had no idea the 750 made that much, yikes. @NorcalBoy I started to make specific stipulations but it got more and more complicated, so I just left them out.

PS Failed NZ Warrant of Fitness today, CRAP! warped front rotors (pulsing) which I knew about but you cant feel it at speed and my hydraulics on the handlebars are hitting the windscreen, I am sure its the ABM handlebar conversion I did. double Crap

It could be the disc bobbins locked up. Do all bobbins rotate freely?
If not bolt though the middle of them & spin while spraying brake cleaner at the bobbin - you will use a can of it for the front brakes.

    Remove conversion, take test..

The Canadian commercial version of the RC30 was rated at 112 HP, at 11,500 rpm's, by Honda Canada dyno testing. Haven't seen any spec's for what the WSBK, World Endurance, or Suzuka versions pumped out, but my guess is that the HRC tuned machines were a good step beyond that.

If freeing the buttons doesn't help, next you may want to look at whether one of your discs has had a bit of a bump, very easy to bend the alloy carrier a tad which makes for a brake shudder. It is also an easy thing to gently tweak a bent carrier back into line, using a dial indicator gauge to find the high or low spot. Of course if your discs are close to min thickness then it is time for new ones.

My perspective is...I don't care how much hp it makes, it's the holy freakin' grail of homologation specials. Sure, some might make more hp than the '30, but NONE of them are nearly as technically advanced and ice cold when it comes to cool. Hell, I think I might even fancy a 5 or 6g here in the future..

I would start with a 5th gen motor. This would eliminate all the Vtec tom foolery and simplify matters somewhat. Then decide if I wanted reliable power (endurance application) or a grenade (1/4 mile ripper). Based on the application you will proceed accordingly.

But this game is about building grenades..yah?
I wouldn't hesitate to go insane building a 1/4 mile motor with forced induction, custom grind cams for reduced valve overlap lightened rotating group, stronger ignition, no charging system, alcohol and who knows what else......350+ HP. Stuff will break!! You fix it and push harder till something else breaks etc...LOL It would be epic!!!

Well, I saw a video of Joey Dunlop Woop ass on a pair of factory FZR1000's on his "aging" RC45. Pulled them down the straights by a few mph; pretty amazing.

However.....I would be surprised if they where getting 150 from a RC45, I'm thinking like 140 at the wheel.
