Specifically, I want to put an RC24 engine in an RC36 frame. I believe the rear mounts on the crankcases are the same, but there's possibly some variation in the upper mounts on the heads. Seems the RC30 heads are a cross between the RC24 and the RC36, being like the 24 in design, but with 36 upper mounts. So in fact 30 and 36 engines swap relatively easily (or so I've read).

However, I want to put the 24 engine in the 36 frame. Anyone done this and can point out the pitfalls or offer any tips?

BTW, I'm not looking for any discussion about the sense or otherwise of doing this. Just trying to get information about it before I do it myself.

Never seen it discussed (until now) or attempted. Usually the discussion is newer engine in older frame. And then some pictures with hack saws and grinders in the background. And then crickets.

You're not helping, rofl. The posting is looking for someone to do all the dirty work, and not ask a lot of questions.

Well I don't really see it like that. Before I start any project, I like to find out if anyone's done it before as that can really help make it easier. Surely I'd be a fool not to ask first, would I not?

Here's some discussion going the other way that could be useful.

Pitfalls will be getting the chain alignment/angle correct and still being able to mount carbs and airbox in the frame, imo. And then figuring out exhaust routing. And then tackling every other problem that is created when you are solving one.

    Get started! I wanna see!

By way of explanation, I want to put together a decent RC30 replica and the RC24 engine and RC36 frame are the closest match. Since it's not real, I could just use an RC36 engine, but I have a desire for the greater similarity to the RC30 provided by the RC24 engine.

I'm not expecting a simple bolt together job and I have my own lathe so making appropriate spacers is no bother. I will even cut and weld the frame if I have to, but I'm hoping there won't be too much of that as it looks like the rear mounts ought to line up, so it'll just be fabbing up some mounts to the heads. As I said, any info I can gather beforehand will be extremely useful to contemplate while I search for an engine (I have the frame).

I AM going to do this, but I also have a lot of other projects on the go, so don't hold your breath.

That would have been a great first post. Good luck, it should be cool.

I have seen a couple of replicas that just use the 36 frame & engine then custom the exhaust to fit on the other side...
    Its far easier...
