The forks are still on the bike and I was able to pull the slider off but it will not go back on the way it is. I’m thinking that bushing should have come out of the slider and stayed on the fork. Dust seal and snap ring were removed before slider came off. I have heated slider, sprayed with penetrating oil and let sit and tapped small screwdriver around edges hoping to loosen. Am I right in thinking bushing should have come out of there and go back on once slider is back on fork ? There is no gap where bushing joins, its tight together. Reason for removing slider was to replace seal and dust cap. Thanks for any suggestions.

Yeah, that should have came out with the fork tube above the other bushing. Wow, I'm not sure how the other bushing even got by it. Weird.

If I'm seeing that correctly, I believe that's the upper fork bushing. It might be so hammered that it's deformed and now trapped in the lower tube. I wouldn't be jamming screwdrivers in there to loosen it up, as you run the risk of damaging what's around it. From the looks of it, it's going to need to be replaced.

It might be so shot that it's worn enough to allow it to get by, scary, but possible. Visually, the inside of that bushing, looks questionable.

What's weird is the one that is still in the fork (fork pipe bush) gets driven after installing the tube with bushing (slider bush). Maybe I still need to wake up and am looking at it wrong, but I don't know how the slider bushing came out past it.

Very questionable. Don't know how it has any teflon on it at all. And looks like it was attempted to be driven back thru.

Ok, thanks for feedback everyone. Haven’t looked at all for new ones but I do have a parts bike. I will check that out. That slider took a couple of sharp pulls to come off, thought that was normal procedure.

And yes, there was an attempt to drive it back on.

It normally does take a few sharp pulls because you should be pulling that bushing out.

If it were me, I'd take a dremel and carefully cut two notches in it to provide a little clearance and attempt to pick it out, one half at a time. I also wouldn't put used bushings back in it. These are wear parts and meant to be replaced periodically. It would be the same as putting used bearings from one engine into another engine when replacing a crankshaft. It defeats the entire purpose of rebuilding the forks, at least in my opinion. Those bushings are available new.

Best of luck to you!!!! Let us all know how it works out. Fingers crossed that it goes painlessly for you and you end up with a nice set of refreshed forks at the end.
