So here’s the low down. A few weeks ago I started noticing a “miss” at constant throttle/highway speed. Didn’t think much of it, it gradually got worse to the point where it would stall at idle at a light. I changed the plugs, 28k on the odometer, the front right plug looked pretty wet/fouled. They all seemed to be original. Road tested, problem still there.
Did some more testing and found my charging system crapped out, shocking. I installed the roadstercycle kit with a new oem stator and digital voltmeter. Road tested again, initially it road “better “ but still felt like it was stumbling. Voltage is now where it needs to be. Put some fresh gas and took it on the highway. As soon as I stopped on the off ramp it stalled. I have new fuel pressure regulator, but the orings I need are on back order. Also notice the exhaust smells very rich, almost makes your eyes tear up.
Does it sound like I’m on the right path?

Makes me wonder if you've got an injector acting strangely, maybe sticking open and causing one cylinder to go so over-rich to the point that the spark plug can't light off the mixture.

It's quite a "dig" to get all the way down to a VFR's injectors, but maybe the effort would be worth it, I mean 2003 was a long time ago now and sending the injectors out to be professionally cleaned, measured for flow and operationally tested might be good for the bike.

I’ll have to see if there is anyone in my area that can do that.

If you're in the Denver area (and you've got room to work on the bike) I'll show up and do it just for the fun of it (I'm one of those people), then when they come back from cleaning I'd put them back in for you. I've been in there on my two 5th Gens a few times so the work is familiar enough to qualify as "fun".

I really appreciate the offer, I’m just outside of Atlanta though.

Here's a question: has anything changed recently as far as where you're parking the bike? Have you looked into the insides of the bike's airbox recently?

It's a thoroughly documented "thing" with VFRs that little critters love to build nests in the airbox. You wouldn't think that a VFR would be easily accessible or attractive to mice or similar types of animals for nesting, but it has happened to more than a few people here on this forum.

I ask because the restriction of airflow generated by the mouse nest will make a VFR run really rich-n-stinky and the bike will stall, as you've described.

It’s always in my garage. The air box is clean. I did the flapper mod and run a K&N.

Are you talking about the MAP sensor? Your issue sounds like mine and I replaced my MAP sensor but still have the problem.

Aside from the missing you describe, stumbling and the poor MPG, did you do anything else to diagnose? Did you have fuel in your FPR hose?
