I believe you have a 98. Send a PM to OOTV he might have what you are looking for and can answer your questions.

Pretty easy to figure out. The 98-01 VFR800 has the model number RC46, which will be the 4-7th characters in the VIN number.
I could be wrong here, but I seem to remember that the very first RC46 bikes rolled out in late 1997 although it's only officially listed as produced from 1998-2001.
If that is the case, you could technically have a 1997 registered bike that is officially a 1998 model.

    In any case.
I don't like the look of the Delkevic headers. The collector looks poorly optimised for gas flow. Black Widow makes a set that looks much better designed and costs pretty much the same.

Its a 1998 model (5th gen RC46) that was made in 12/97. My 1998 VFR800 was also made in 12/97.

You obviously have the one of the very first run of the Vfr800's, I had Delkevic headers before on another bike, I'd prefer Motad if I could find them but they are out of buisness now so you'll be lucky to find a second hand set.

    They are fine.
You will gain bottom end and mid range, but lose top end.
They're a pretty crap design, but look good and are cheap.
