I'm hoping someone who has OEM panniers can let me know if the black rubber piece that attaches to the stay above passenger foot peg is really required to mount the side cases. U have an opportunity for used panniers but won't get that rubber piece for each side. Are they really needed?

Definitely needed, you will here and feel the panniers moving around without them, and I would imagine it would eventually lead to cracks in the pannier mount. The good news is they are available as spare parts. I am 99% sure they are the same as the VFR1200 mounting rubbers.

Thanks for all the feedback. This forum is great. Just ordered my .95 motopump bar risers and bags are next if I can actually find some to buy.

I just received mine, easy to find in the USA. Ordered the panniers and locks through Honda powersport accessory website and they arrived in three days... and no sales tax was charged. Best of all, the (hideous) reflectors weren’t installed and there were no holes drilled for them. They shipped from an out of state dealership. It took about 20 min to key the first one, and about 3 minutes to do the second one. And yes, you definitely need to use the rubber mounting points.

They aren’t exactly cavernous but they’ll do the trick for a week on the road.

Thanks for the info. Were the Panniers you were able to order Red? I'm trying to find white which seems much more difficult. They are not listed on Honda US or any online US stores. I'm thinking about getting the crossrunner 800x cases in white. From what I read here they should fit.

When I bought mine last year, the dealer told me they no longer make them in white, so I bought the red instead.

Here's how they'll look on your bike if you get the red: https://vfrworld.com/threads/socal-road-trip-and-iron-butt-nomination.57316/

I need the rubber mounts, and the two 5mm? Bolts and collars that come with them to attach to the mount bar. I called Mason City Honda and Service Honda (which is now called something else) I used the part numbers. I was told they are not available any more.
On the Honda Accessory site these parts are pictured with the OEM BAGS. If you order factory bags you will probably get these parts with the bags. But it seems they are not available separately unless someone on here can give me a proper lead.
    Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you need some dimensions and may be making some??? If you have a pic and dimensions, maybe from my memory bank I can recommend something from another bike?

Actually, I have one for the right side. I bought this ‘15 Deluxe with 2500 miles and factory bags in Florida on my way down for hibernation. It was late Sunday Dec. 29. MSTA riding buddies had already checked out the bike for me. Wife was driving next 150 mi + and I was riding the VFR, and had to get moving so my review was cursory and bags were on the bike.

After arrival, in the dark, I tried to lock the bags. Could not figure it out so took the bags inside. Next day got on here and realized no lock set ever installed. Called the Seller. He had no clue and did not know anything about lock sets. He bought the OEM bags from another dealer, after purchase. Ordered lock sets and service manual from Keith at Mason City. Became a certified Honda locksmith.

Then, read some more on VFRW (thanks everyone) and looked into the mounting rubbers. One on the right, but No Bolt and No collar to lock it in place. And I’m pretty certain that the left one was not there when I bought the bike because, on arrival, (after 150 mi.) I noticed the left bag was not mounted firmly.

I drilled down on sourcing the rubber steps, collars and bolts, but no luck at Mason City or Service Honda (now something else in Hammond, IN.)

I can wrap some gaffers tape or black duct tape around the the mount bar to achieve the same tight fit without getting the same flexibility of the rubber. And easy enough to do just when I want to mount the bags for travel, to keep the clean look when the bags are off.

BUT, it would be nice to have the stock set-up.

Thanks for listening and for all the good info on here. I’ve been on this site for years after starting my collection with my first 5th Gen in ‘04 —now have 2 ‘99, 3 ‘01, ‘07 Anniversary Livery w OEM bags, and the new to me 8th Gen Deluxe.

Sorry about any posting goofs. Haven’t posted much.

Any tips on sourcing the rubber steps, collars and bolts appreciated.

    Thanks,

If your part number is correct, try David Silver Spares, a site many use for top boxes and panniers..... shipping from your source is very high. Email David Silver Spares for availability and shipping (as they recommend with parts that are not in stock).

The bolts and collars should not be a problem. Someone on here can post the proper bolt spec.s. Washers or spacers from a Lowes or Home Depot hardware assortment can substitute for the collars.

The fall back position is gaffer’s tape or duct tape wrapped around the mount to appropriate thickness. No bolts or collars needed.

    Thanks raYzerman.
I finally got around to ordering the rubber steps from DavidSilverSpares. Bolts and collars not available. Probably 10-14 Days for delivery.
I ordered two extra sets, if any one on here is in need of a replacement.

    Nick,

I have received these yet, but will be happy to share. I decided to shelter another month in Florida and the parts are being shipped to my house in Ohio, so it might be early June unless I can get my daughter to help in the meantime.
I’m not familiar with how this site facilitates direct contact offline? ?
