Need annual oil change with full synthetic?

For various reasons the VFR was relatively neglected this year. So it's been a year since the oil change with full synthetic, but only 2000 miles (no shaming, please). Do I really need to change the oil if it's still nice and amber colored?

 

Yes, its either miles or time. A year is time to do it. That is just me though, I have three street bikes and one only got maybe 300 in a year, guess what? It gets an oil change, Amsoil aint cheap either but it makes my head feel better when I am romping around on them. Call up either Amsoil or Mobil One and speak to an engineer and see what they say about leaving used motor oil in an engine for over a year, bet they say the same thing I am telling you.

Anyway, you know I had perfectly good tyres on one of my bikes (the one that gets a yearly oil change) lots of tread left etc, they happened to be about 14 years old though, I was like, "ok, No biggie, just doing a 7 mile commute to work." well, one morning going to work, (easy commute, nothing like riding in NYC or Miami get the picture.) a car at the last minute cuts in front of the pick-up truck in front of me, even though I had a decent space cushion, it came up so fast, I had to ride around the crash, tyres squeeling, smoke and the crash. I started to grab front brake but felt the front end judder, I knew I had to ride around it which I did unscatherd. Next day I ordered new tires and had the rear wheel powder coated while I was at it too. Moral of the story? don't try to stretch stuff out that really has no business being stretched oot.

 

I always change my oil every fall so I go into winter with fresh oil no matter how many miles. I have 2 bikes and 2 cars so the bikes are going less than 2k miles per year.

 

When I lived in wonderful NJ, I used to ride year round, had electric clothing etc and did more miles than I do in South FL. I never had a bike laid up for the winter. It is a good idea to have fresh oil in "it" as you don't want those nasty acids attacking any sensitive bearing surfaces etc. PeacE. I had a Hawk once, many moons ago - Sold it to a chap in Brooklyn who was happier than a pig in poop (if you believe that!)
