Hi all, it is my first post. I bought my very first motorbike 5 months ago and it is 99 black VFR. The problem happens around 1th - N - 2nd gears. sometimes can't shift from 2nd to 1th, or 1th to N. It stucks around there. Sometimes it cause problems at traffic lights. Do you have any idea?
Make sure your clutch fluid is fresh and properly bled. It might not be completely disengaging the clutch which will be most problematic around the 1st-N-2nd area. Make sure the shift pedal is tight on the shaft. How old is the engine oil? That is your best case scenario.
It has fluid but previous owner put it. I need to change it first I think. Any suggestion for clutch fluid brand? DOT 4 is ok Ithink? or DOT 5?
Heed Captain 80's words.... then disassemble the clutch lever and check condition of the brass bushing that pushes on the master cylinder actuator. Betcha all scored and oval and you need to get a new one. Grease with silicone grease (dielectric will do) that won't wash out easily.
Maybe you also wanna check the clutch slave cylinder for proper operation. Clean and or refurbish if necessary.
One of the most overlooked items. Can't believe I didn't mention it, as it is one of my 1st go-tos. They are not cheap for what they are and I think that's partly why they don't get replaced. I've "fixed" many bikes with a new one.
Oddly enough, not shown on that view..... check parts catalog, this one from Partzilla, item 2 and way overpriced. Get one for Yamaha FJR or any other bike. I bleed the old clutch oil and replaced with new one, I bleeded a lot for avoiding any air bubble. Unfortunately cant test because lower radiator hose bleeds and I ordered new one, new hose will come next week with lever bush. i dont know previous oil’s age but clutch lever is super soft and smooth now. Is it normal? Previously it was really stiff when I compare it with other bikes. I thought vfr was stiff but not anymore. I hope I bleed it properly, my bleeder didnt work properly and It bleeded using clutch squeeze\release method. next week I will replace bush to, current one is super rusty. edit: I think, it had air in the line. This is why it got harder and harder. Also i was hearing friction noise while driving when I engage the clutch. Brake lever and rear brake pedal also have spongy feeling. I will bleed brake fluid tomorrow, I hope i can make it also I will replace brake pads too when I detach the calipers.
