That is fantastic! Did you have to sand between coats to get that smooth? I never have any luck with rattle can paint jobs.

There is no real secret to it,

I don’t use the normal off the shelf paints, I use a place called Leonard Brookes, they mix the colours and sell you a 400ml can for £12, I also buy their professional primer and clear coat

Used very high build plastic primer, with two coats, left for 3 days, this is then blocked back with 1500 paper, any holes or odd bits are filled with stopper, then blocked back again,

When I’m happy with the base, I put on a thick coat of silver, let that dry for 3 days at 18-20 degrees C in the heated shed, this normally shows all the edges of the sanded back original paint,

The silver is sanded back again with 1500, then I give it a light coat of silver again, just enough to cover any of the areas I have gone through where the primer shows,

If you try to flat the last coat of silver, you will get loads of light and dark areas, you must not touch the last silver coat

Leave that for a day then clear coat it, with 2 coats, leave that for about a week, then flat the clear coat with some 3200 wet n dry, using a bit of rubber to scrape off the water, so I can see how far I’m flatting back

The polish it with an orange pad on my DAS6 pro polisher, and some megs 105,

I have spoken to Graham, they cannot do the tail top sticker due to colour restrictions, no one can apparently, and Its NLA. 77228MB6830ZA

so its gonna be painted and get some 1970's stick on pinstripes.

Also Managed to get the front Tappets done, they were slacker then a slack thing, the cams are fine, same as the rears.

Oil and filter change too, the man I bought it off said it had just had fresh oil, that must have been in about 2003, it was thick black and horrid,

Now sounds much better, no tapping noises

 

I have decided to start hunting for the holy grail, a set of standard exhaust cans

Very nice, but by the time I have paid the post, and the import duty and tax, they will be over £300

Might as well buy the marv’s for 260, and no duty

The post to me in the U.K. is £80 plus purchase at £180, might even be over 300

It’s the ridiculous eBay postage that stops me buying anything from the USA

Wanted to buy a small part for the Porsche from New York, $18 for the part, $50 postage for something that would fit in a A5 Air Post bag

Being in Canada theyre a good deal. $80 US to ship them here and $250 US to buy. Worth it here if I was in the market for a set. But your paying 2x the postage to the UK that Id be paying to Canada, thats alot.

Wonder if a US resident could ship them cheaper for you ?

Problem with pipes is bulky and heavy so not cheap to ship.

Id bet you'd get close to what they're asking for these OEM pipes if you sell the Laser pipes (if theyre in good shape). Maybe that would make the deal more appetizing ? You dont see OEM pipes like that very often.

It is a real shame, something I'm finding with the 500 is parts seem much more plentiful in the US, generally better condition and at a much more reasonable price. But as you say once you add postage and then get hit with import its just not worth it.

That being said I'm looking for an exhaust for mine too and I'm starting to think if a good one comes up in the US I may just take the hit... the parts supply isn't going to get any better!

maybe we sould get some one in the usa to do us a crate of parts and share the postage, if its correctly labels as second hand spare parts, there should be no duty, I am led to believe

 

Now I have to start searching for a RH indicator base, the current one has the fixing post snapped off completely and missing, it has had a rubber thing glued on in its place and just won’t hold





I really need both of them as the LH one has seen some serious abuse too
