So the bike is finally done now and I have nothing left to do for it. Here are a few photos.

Not sure on that white radiator cover, can you do a shot further back?

I think you should call Honda and see if they need another bike for the museum. I seriously doubt there is a better (relatively original) one in existence.

Every Mod you have done is reversible.

I wouldn't ride it. Drain the carbs and take pictures of it!

The 800 looks good also. I am warming up more and more to that Gen.

Here are a couple more photos of it and yes, everything I have done is reversible. I also have the lower cowl that the Lockhart fairing replaces. The 800 is a great bike. I upgraded from a 2007 6th Gen and I like it even more as I think it is more refined and a better handling bike. Over the years, people have trashed the VTEC but I have never had a problem with it, even on the 2007. Prior to both of those bikes I had a new 1999 5th Gen. That bike had the gear driven cams that were awesome. The 6th Gen did away with them which is why I think people feel the way they do.

Yea, I love mine, it is a great bike. "refined" is a good word for it, it does everything very well. Mine is a Deluxe with the heated grips etc (your's too by the looks of it). The only change I made was adding 1" riser blocks to the handle bars, made a big difference for me.

I also added the riser blocks along with the hard cases which come in handy for traveling to and from work. My laptop just fits ...

Thanks again for all the pictures!

I am in the process of painting the tank on my 86 and it has been very helpful to see how an original tank was striped.

    So nice! Great job.

I changed my radiator cover back to black. Just preferred it kinda disappearing in the there after a while. But I like it white too.

Oh, one other thing, I was just reading a story about this, and I'm guilty too on one bike...

Flags "flown" on vehicles and aircraft are required to have the Union up airstream. So the right side flag is non-compliant.

    ;-)

    Anyway, great job man.

Too funny. I knew that when I put it on that it didn't look right but didn't know those details!! Anyhow, I am living in the 80's so the flag was to emphasize the American Honda glory days.

Very nice. Post back with the progress as it will tie your bike together when it is done. I also have a brand new tank, so here are some photos of that in case it can help.

Looks awesome, all these '86 500 rehabs sure make me miss mine more!

Side note, think you all are way too hard on the powder coat shops. Had a reasonably close relationship with a powder coat shop for a long time, for them it sure wasn't easy to find competent skilled help in the 80s & 90s (even when high schools had "shop class" and local community college taught trade) sadly he's long gone with his shop, but I can't imagine in the 2020s trying to find competent mechanically inclined help for $13/hr. that understands metal finishing, mechanical fitment, and fit/finish in the aftermarket industry. Sure, to those of use immersed in these things, it makes sense and should be easy, but to most any non college or trade school educated early 20s kid in the year 2021, might as well speak Latin.
