Turns out very good indeed! I picked up a 1998 VFR800Fi on eBay for very little money after selling my KTM and deeply regretting not having something to 'footer aboot wi' in the garage. I've owned a 2004 VFR before and enjoyed it a lot and this bike came up, looked a bit tired, had a stupid exhaust, some tatty add ons but seemed to ooze a little promise!

First things first, took all the crap off it and gave it a deep clean, it came with an unmarked standard exhaust so the aftermarket was sold on eBay for a silly amount of money (just over 10% of what I paid for the whole bike!) and the factory exhaust went on. A couple of items were delivered off for powder coating and returned looking brand new, I love powder coating! I rode it for a bit before Christmas and decided this was a bike I could live with easily and any thoughts of selling it to trade up evaporated.

Once cleaned up the shagged out looking chain and sprockets were actually a nearly new gold Renthal combo but had been covered in chain wax and grime. With very little in the way of service history but an assurance that the previous owner was a mechanic and had cared for the bike meticulously (heard that one before!) I booked it in with the now redundant mechanic who used to look after my new 2004 VFR back in the day. Ian is a fully trained Honda mechanic operating out of Lochty Industrial Estate near Perth and an absolute star! I popped the VFR in for the works, change fork oil, oil and filters, air filter, change spark plugs, check valve clearances (including the rear bank), thorough check over and an MOT. The bill?? Only £260 including all the parts and MOT!

A new set of tyres are coming this week, Angel ST's...maybe not the best of the best but more than adequate for my riding style and the capabilities of the bike. Only £139 delivered from Bikespeed in Broxburn Edinburgh and less than I got for the after market exhaust!

Last Sunday was my first proper run on the bike (Dunblane - Crieff - Sma Glen - Aberfeldy - Killin - Callander - Dunblane) and I am absoduckingflutely delighted with the bike! The bike is totally stock including the suspension but pops along at a fair rate inspiring enough confidence to use 90% plus of the tyre. Here's hoping the Angel ST's inspire the same confidence as the slightly squared off Michelin's.

All-in-all, a feckless booze infused eBay purchase has turned out very well indeed all for the cost of a deposit on a new bike, bloody marvelous!

Congrats on the new Viffer mate! How many miles did she have on her and how much did you pay? Now to add on some really needed bits i.e. heated grips, risers and some bags and you'll be racking smiles for days. I love my 6th Gen in the RWB color and I don't think I'll ever part with her.

The bike has 21,000 and the price was favourable!! No heated grips required and the risers have been taken off and sitting on a shelf! The only bag will be a bumbag (fanny-pack) with a set of skids and toothbrush! Traveling light works best for me! Have to giggle writing fanny-pack as that means something completely different in Scotland...

Thats a great story Zigekmo! All VFR's are great and the 5th Gens are wonderful. I have had mine for 21 years and can't see ever selling it. There is a reason it was Bike of the Year a few times and Motorcyclist magazine said at the time "we honestly Love this thing".
Welcome here and stay awhile. Enjoy that sweet VFR.
