Using 1gen engine parts for 2gen V45

Hello to all.

I have not posted for a long time, the main reason being I stopped riding because of a serious engine breakdown on my 1988 V45 Magna. In 2018 I had the bike totally repainted and rechromed, engine was removed from frame and etc for this job. Then in November 2019 the rear cylinder camshaft broke while driving. I have had both cylinder heads restored like new, got a new crankshaft but now need parts, like new cam timing chains, chain guides, cylinder head gaskets, valve shims, crankshaft shim end "bearings", carbs and other things. I know a guy who has two first gen Magnas, 1983 and 1984 or 85. My question is, can I use parts from these older engines in my 1988 Magna? It would save me a lot of trouble if I could do that as the old parts are cheap. It would also save time as post is slow and spare parts not cheap on ebay and etc. Thank you for all answers.
