Sweet bike, that would finish off my collection! I could own, RED/WHITE/BLUE. Really the blue one is called, Granite Blue - Anyway, too much money and too far away but looks like an easy fix and lots of life left in it. PeaCe

I went and looked a this VFR today in Sugarland. From 20 feet away I looks like a really nice bike. Battery was dead and had some aged fuel in the tank and he said the carbs need cleaning, the seat covering was worn and there were a couple of small rust spots on the tank top. The passenger grab handles were missing but the plastic body panels looked great. As he leaned over to show me there was no brake pressure by squeezing the brake lever the bike almost tipped over and had I not been standing next to it it would have. Also the switch housings looked sun bleached, maybe minor things but could indicate lack of care, tires were worn. What do y’all think? Is $3000 too much? What do y’all think would be a fair price? Thanks guys! Also this is the first VFR I’ve ever looked at.

The bike is essentially a strip it and refurbish, so its gonna take a bunch of wrenching and labor and bucks to bring it up to OK running condition.
Consider if you have the skills to work on it.....
I am not really good at 3rd gens, but a guess at a solid running bike, may be $2500ish or a bit less. Not running? I dont want to name it, but I would go lowball on it. (Maybe even pass on it, I have other projects to do.)
It needs a lot of work......

For $3000, you can get a solid running 5th gen or even 6th now adays....

Nice name Sugarland, you know, it comes down to economics and what your looking for. Three thousand is high for a non running, not collectable (for me it is) bike. If it was an RC-30 I would have already wired the seller the money and be driving there with my jeep and trailer. I bought a non-running generation 3 bike in 2013 with 15,000 miles for five hundred dollars. It took money/labour/time/experience to bring the bike back from the dead.

You could spend upwards of 2000 dollars for parts, not labour bringing this bike back - from; if the gas tank is nasty (mine came with a rusted out tank-probably saved itself from the owner. I bought a rust free one from ebay but it was dented. I ran that for years and eventually found a rust free one, had to buy new o-rings for fuel sending unit though. This is just me; but I personally hate petrol tanks that have a coating inside and generally steer clear of them.)https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-1990...98f5:g:UC4AAOSweNpf48r0&LH_ItemCondition=3000

Your gona have to get 4 carburetor over haul kits, Honda makes you buy two for each carb, its not cheap. While I would be in there, I would replace the o-rings associated with the fuel tubes. I have stainless steel ones. The list goes one from tyres, battery, voltage regulator (Roadster - aftermarket unit) re-build kits for master cylinders, new clutch slave, fork seals, rear shock absorber, fork springs, maybe emulators.

You get the picture, I would'nt rule out getting involved with one of these, 3000 is way high, by the time your done, your gona be into it at least 5000 dollars. Then you have to ask yourself what could you have bought instead and what do you have when your done with the refurbishment?

For me, I never get willy nilly like that and just pull the trigger and say fu*k it. I looked for that bike I mentioned earlier for 4 years on Craigs List, I may have been lucky. It came with the original owners manual and had the receipt that the first owner paid for it back in 1993. Peace Warren

    UPDATE.......

It's now up to $5,000.00. But he got it running. He must have read the comments!

I have a 1990 Honda VFR750 in excellent condition. These are rare bikes to find, and in this condition, only 22K+ miles on it. Recently, (4/28) carburetors cleaned and rebuilt, fuel system cleaned, gas tank looks new inside, brake fluid flushed and filled new, new battery, seat re upholstered. Runs like new. Tires have tread on them and hold air, but they're several years old and need to be replaced.
Collector's bike VFR. One owner since 1996.
    $5000 or best offer.

Again, here’s my take. The repair of the mechanicals didn’t bother me tho I’ve never worked on a VFR. But I’ve owned a couple Model A’s and presently own a ‘55 Chevy and have worked on both:pulling the heads for cleaning, cleaning out the fuel tank(Model A’s) manifold change out, carburetor rebuilds, mounting new fuel tank(‘55 Chevy). I’ve changed out the drive belt in my ‘94 H-D FXR(WOW!!)I am the resident carpenter/electrician/plumber/mechanic/lawn-garden upkeep/and DAD(Disposer of Dead Animals). As I remember the VFR hadn’t been re-registered since 2012 so all-in-all due to it not running and despite the fact of the beautiful body work I just shied away from it. What would have done if one of the crank bearings were shot, etc? What’s that old saying about “...buying a pig in a poke?”

That is why I only paid 500 dollars for my gen3 bike which cranked, so I knew at least it turned over and was not locked up. If it was a poop show, I would have sold the rear wheel and had a parts bike possibly. 500 is no money anyway, so I could have digged deeper anyway. Your a DAD? How do the animals end up dead? With Lead?

No, we had four children and at times a herd of pets:goldfish, birds, dogs, and a battalion of cats. When they croaked I was tasked with disposal of the remains. Not a pleasant job but a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do. Know what I mean Vern?

I suspect in about 4-6 months the bottom will drop out of all these crazy prices we are seeing.

I just saw a freakin 2012 250 Honda Rebel for $3,000.00. Those are $1500-$1800 bikes normally. It wasn't even in good shape.

Totally, I worked for a fellow happened to be a Gemini, anyway, we used to spend our entire day fixing junk bikes calling each other Vern! You know, I was dating a woman with two boys, one kids father was a master plumber, the other one I don't remember. The master plumbers kid used to clog the toilet on a weekly basis, you can't make this stuff up right. Anyway, the boys had a pet ferret who one of them sat on and killed. Well, they buried it in the courtyard under crushed stone. About a week or so later there was a complaint about burying animals in a common courtyard. Guess whose job it was to dig that thing up? Me, well she (my GF) had no proper digging tools, I ended up using a big soup spoon to dig that dead ferret up, and holy bat chit did it stink to high heaven. I tossed the carcass into a dumpster and I swear 5 cats jumped in there to have a look. Anyway, dont wana give you eyestrain.

I train my kid with gun safety and have her target practicing with an pump air pistol. She understands hunting and invasive species and likes going out on a canoe to harvest iguanas with me. Peace
