Hey Jim, is that an early Civic in the background? Sorry if that question has already been asked.

Yes sir, 1983 Civic S (well not an original S but I converted it over to one). My Mom bought it brand new off the lot in 1983.

70 rip snortin' HP at Red Line! Best of all it has Air Conditioning! I think the AC uses about 10 HP when it kicks in.

I still drive it but it is a bit of a handful on the Freeway! I usually just stick to the back streets.

The 2 part 4K clears in a can that you push-puncture the bottom to mix are truly fuel resistant. I sprayed a test piece and let a puddle of fuel evaporate in the direct sun after curing for a few weeks. I wiped it off with my shirt and couldn't tell where the fuel had been. I told my buddy that was painting his VFR tank, go for it. Then the tank he painted had pinholes in the seam after de-rusting!!!! He was SO GUTTED!!! He is now running a NICE 87 Blue loaner from me until he gets another tank of mine that I told him I would sell him PROFESSIONALLY repainted.

Just took my tank to my painter. She said paint prices are going through the roof. Especially anything in RED.

That seems really weird to me. She said certain RED colors are up to about $800.00/gallon. WOW!

Anyway, I am glad I made the decision to have her paint it. I know I would have done a shitty job.

Good call. That's exactly why I don't do it, not worth it. I detest painting anyway

I am putting the decals on myself, with advice from @straycat . I was not sure my painter was really into it as she mainly does cars.

I agree. I used the 2k spraymax? Rattlecan on my Magna 5 years ago and it is Still holding up. I would definitely do it again if I didn't have a friend that could clear coat for a 12 pack

So I picked up the tank today, the blue is dead nuts on but the red is off...Oh well. Seems like it needs more orange in it but it may be that is the way it is supposed to be. It does not match the seat quite right. In any case I can have the side covers painted as well as the lower fairing to match. The red n the side covers and lower fairing are faded from sun exposure also. Might be the problem also.

I am happy just to have it back and the split line between the colors is perfect. My painter did a great job and I am glad to have her doing my work.

Working on the decals next then clear coat.

Oh yeah, and that $400.00 VF500F is now up to $2,708.00 if anyone is counting :nelson:

May be a good idea to listen to the sage wisdom on the site before buying one of these!

Luckily I am an idiot so I remain happy!

It looks good. Fighting red that is 35 years old is quite orange by now. The seat never really matched anyway from new. Install the stripe, get it cleared and enjoy the bike in the sun and get the orange-ing process started again! With the stripe installed and a set of knees "installed" not much red is visible anyway. ;-)

And when you shoot the forks, you can do the fender. Hah!

Thanks Cap'n, It looks great and I should just quite worrying and finish this project. Putting the stripes on tomorrow and getting it cleared next week. I hope I can get the Honda wing decals on right. Everyone here has been super helpful with advice, so I think I will be alright.

Yep, what the Capn' said. the old Red paint fades to orange, your tank is the correct colour its the rest of it that s off.

Had the same challenges on my NS400R.

Red is one of the worst colours for fading that way
