NOT done. Just the "Mod" portion of RestoMod.

Spindle modified for VFR wheel. Modified CB-1 fork lower for dual NT discs and a CBR1000 3.5" front wheel. The discs are so big, that with the wide wheel the brake pads have to be removed to get the caliper off. They aren't even close to being bedded in and are still serious as a heart attack. Runs great, might need to jet up a little more, but pretty damn close. Shake down ride went great... until I ran outa gas less than a mile from home. A buddy came up and gave me a splash so I didn't have to do the walk of shame.

Neat! I had an '88 NT650. Good torque, but it ran outta steam nearing 100mph (a fairing would have been welcome).
I always wanted to add RC30-ish bodywork to mine, but sold it to a fella that REALLY wanted it...

Thank you Gentlemen. I know that a few of us have dual citizenship (HawkGTForum and VFRWorld). There is quite a bit of work that isn't very apparent that really cleaned this Hawk up. I moved a bunch of stuff, especially around the shock area. The fuel pump, R/R, fuse box all have new locations with custom sub-harnesses to retain a stock main wire harness.
    image_47501.jpg

It has VFR handlebar switch assemblies as temporary hardware, which also required sub-harnesses. The stock units plug in behind the frame near the rear cylinder! Now whatever switches I choose plug in behind the headlight. Which now has plenty of room because I moved the headlight forward and down for looks and so the headlight cowl sits where I want.

    20210121_153621.jpg

HOURS into the front fender and tail section. Front fender has been reshaped, same basic NT shape, but smaller. The rear cowl needed new taillight mounts, a fair amount of small cracks repaired and it had a bunch of divots from the coils on bungee cords. Fucking bungee cords. Then HOURS of sanding, glazing and sanding. Over and over. And I still missed two small areas. Oh well, this is not final paint, so those areas can be addressed then. I just wanted it presentable until the "Resto" phase.

Also whipped up some basic rearset relocation plates to go with the lower F2 bars. Pretty damn sporty seating position now, but feels great.

The rearsets have now since been modified to accept more modern aluminum Honda footpegs.

Thanks for the kind comments! I may put some fresh rubber on and ride it next year before tearing it down to restore if the test rides for this remaining riding season continue to go well. It will be down for a year for the "Resto" phase. Oh, and I found another tank that is clean and pretty damn straight to have painted when the time comes. Then I can put this tank away in storage, cuz a spare Hawk tank is a good thing.

Did about 50 miles on it yesterday. Was able to do some full throttle passes thru the gears and the jetting feels pretty damn close.

The pads are finally starting to bed into the rotors, it's got some serious stopping power. I know it's overkill and unsprung weight, but I really wanted the look of the stock Hawk rotor times two. My friend on his VFR700 was pretty surprised about how quick it was. While it's not "fast"-fast, It's not what I would consider a "slow" bike now. I think the exhaust note is taking out my right taillight bulb too. If it happens again I'll know, but I lost both filaments on that side on the ride. Guess I better spoon some new rubber on, this thing is gonna be very capable.

Nice, what did you go with for jetting? I like the description of fast. Hawks are not balls fast, but they will eat up canyons as fast as anything. Are we chatting about hawks on the wrong forum? lol

Right now it's 150/150. I originally wanted to start at 150/155 but I ordered the wrong style 155 and didn't want to wait and run it. I have a feeling I'll end up at 155/160, but I still need to check the plugs. K&N in umodded air box with snorkel, but I'm gonna mod the lid a little with a couple screened 2 inch ports towards the rear. It really ran way better than I thought it would.

Yeah, sure did. Pretty cool. Mine's really not a "beauty" yet, but it will be. I'm really struggling deciding if I'm gonna ride for a year like this or start pulling it apart. I hope the clutch holds on, I wanted to wait and do that when I go thru the engine out of the frame.

Keep working on it Cap'n, looking good. I really like the look of the dual disk Hawk set up in front!

Hoping to ride my Hawk next weekend. Doing a lot of tedious detailing and painting right now.

Thank you, I will readjust it.

The PO really f-ed up the adjusting ring on the eccentric and the tool will not even get a bite on it.

Yeah Honda all the way! 1983 Civic 1500 S. Been in the family since new. Even the A/C works!

    I may be more 80's than Cap'n 80's!
