Aaaaand it sold. Womp Womp. I’ll be on the lookout for more VF700Fs, even if they’re mis-labeled =)

As everyone has said, stick to a 86 or newer VFR. I had a brand new VF500F and it dropped a valve at 9500 miles and 11 months. Just before the warranty was up. Honda had to pick up the bill on that repair. I was lucky and the dealer was really helpful during the repairs. In 86 I bought a VFR700FII and have no regrets. I still have the bike and am in the process of bringing it back to life after a long hiatus. Good luck finding your project bike, a VFR is worth the effort.

^^^ so you refuse to take good advice ?? :(

that bike is unreliable and overpriced. as others have said, honda didn't make good interceptors until 1986.

you may be ignorant and apparently haven't done enough study to learn about that bike's serious flaws.

if you can afford to pay that kind of money, you can find a good vfr from the 1994-1997 series that's 100 times better than any old vf like that one in the ad.

    Running off Captain 80s above.

If it’s running well at 16,000 miles I’m assuming the cam issue didn’t touch this bike.

And if it did? It gets fixed or the engine swapped.

There have been worse things, and frankly I enjoy tinkering inside of bikes almost as much as I do riding them.

A bunch of shit is different. Upper cowl and tank are completely different. The rear cowl and handles is the same as the 750, but the side covers are different too. The original seat cover says "1000".

The seller doesn't even know he has a 1000.

    Not a good sign.

I think he might, he lists it as a “super bike”.

I was going to reach out just ahead of thanksgiving but no matter, the search continues.

No. He states it was made for 3 years starting in 1983. The 1000F was 1984 only. He thinks it's a 750.

Paint scheme says 85. So does the updated forks and calipers. Looks pretty damn nice.

I agree...pretty nice. I give it a "nice price" pending in person inspection.

It was listed at $4K for the last 10 weeks. The price just dropped.

I’m wondering if there’s something that you figure out in person to not make it worth $4k, or if it’s just that nobody wants to buy a mid-80s VFR for $4K…

The guy had it up as “In no rush to sell”… guess he changed his mind with the cold weather

maybe you haven't figured out the difference yet, but the difference between a VF and a VFR is huge, like between mediocre and excellent.

for only about $2500-$3500 you could find a good bargain on a GREAT bike from the years from 1994-1997, better than any VF by far and alot easier to find parts for.

I’m making a noob mistake with nomenclature, like referring to a 1970s CL as a CB, though I know there are bigger qualitative differences between the VF and VFR then the comp I’m making.

I’m really just looking for the next step up bike from the 350 I currently ride, and to “move forward” a decade.

It's because it wasn't worth 4000. $2500 is the tippity top. Thing better be near perfect. And anyone who says "I'm in no rush to sell" in their ad, I usually don't even want to deal with.

If you wanna jump a decade from the CB/CL, add one or two years and get WAY more bike for the same or maybe even less money. If the bodywork styling just doesn't do anything for you, I get that. But if you can get over that, you can get a MUCH better bike.

I know we are beating this to death a bit, but there's a reason. Your jump into the eighties could be a double jump onto the backside of 1985, or coming up short into the face of 1983. Neither is guaranteed, but history has shown which one has a way higher probability of sticking the landing.

    Good luck!

These are just examples from a quick search in my area for an idea of what around 2 grand can get.

I just sold my buddy's 1986 VFR750F for him. It had the seat cowl too. COMPLETELY gone thru, carbs, suspension, tires, chain, sprockets, ETC...

    $1800

    RC_STU.jpg

This red one ain't bad for the money.

This guy doesn't even know what he has. It's a 87 VFR700F2. This one is over priced.
