Today, I’ve started to do a bit of work on the fairings. First of all, the headlight fairing had a piece missing on the right hand side by the middle mounting hole. An annoyingly small piece. First job was to fix the large crack also coming from the hole. I used the dremel tool to bed-notch the crack out a little and then applied ABS solvent cement on both sides. Seemed to work pretty well and had a pretty strong bond after an hour or so.

Then I had to make the piece to fill in the hole. Firstly filed the edges flat to hopefully get a better mate between the fairing and my new piece. Made a quick card template and laser cut a blank with the hole, then used that to make the part. Used the ABS solvent cement again. I’ve left it overnight and hopefully it will be strong enough, but I might see if I can brace it another way.

Final fit. Yes, the hole’s not round. Hopefully the fixing will solve that and a little persuasion with a rat tail file.

Quite a few other cracks on the panels, that I’ve found. A previous owner has had a go at the with a soldering iron. There’s going to be lots of sanding and priming.

    No, it IS worse.

Time to get some ABS sheet and make up patches to go on the back of the cracks to give them support, the area you’ve just sorted could use it

ABS pipe cement from a builders merchant is the best adhesive I’ve found, viscous and quick setting

Thanks both bit is a little lighter in shade than this picture shows it, but it is rather lovely. Apparently, it’s a BMW charcoal grey. Really looking forward to getting this back on the bike n

I think a little lighter than that photo shows is gonna be perfect on that bike. Good choice.

I found another crack and broken piece on one of the curved apertures, so repaired the crack and made up a backing piece so that I can use a little filler in the void.

I went to a motorcycle autojumble yesterday, with the hope that I might find some bits for my VFR. If you’re renovating a Triumph (which my Dad is) or a BSA, or Norton, then there was lots of stuff to be had.

There was this RC36 for sale. Looked in quite good nick and was a runner. £1100 was the asking price. Think I’ve pretty much spent double that so far!

Then there was this VFR800, in the car park. Very nice condition. Not a big fan of this blue, though.

Then I came across this very sorry looking NC400. Why would you do this to such a lovely looking motorbike? Sacrilege!

Some lovely shiny stuff as well. Quite like my self-portrait.

It’s pouring with rain here, at the moment, but hopefully I’ll be able to get some work done on the bike later today.

Guys, anyone help me out here. I forgot to take a good photograph of how the switch for the rear brake is connected to the pedal assembly. The manual doesn’t show it. Anyone able to give me a steer please?

I don't have a picture, but the switch sits in a small steel bracket that is held with the bolt(s) that attach the rear master cyl to the footpeg bracket. Spring goes down to the more inboard "hook" on the back of the shaft for the brake pedal.

The bracket might only be held with one of the bolts for the rear master and the other bolt has a small washer as a spacer to compensate.

This is going from just memory so, I could be way off, but I'm think I'm close and it might give you something to go on.
