Valve cover bolt seal confusion.

Looking to do a valve adjustment, or atleast inspection before I depart on a big trip somewhat soon and noticed that the bolt seals for the valve cover appear to have two different part numbers.

>90543-MV9-670
Are these effectively the same part? I can't find any difference in the photos of the part.

Seals circled in diagram incase I wasn't clear.

 

It is a reuseable part in my experience. Same for the gaskets number 5 - I do have a new set that I bought a while back that sit inside my armour in my bedroom.

 

They are the same part. Qty 8.

 

I figured that much, I just want to play it safe rather than tear apart the bike more than is needed.

Those grommets are actually pretty critical. The valve cover bolts are shouldered (they bottom out when installed) and those grommets are what apply the pressure on the cover and gasket. I would have customers buy just the gasket and not the grommets (cuz they were too expensive for what they were) and then still have a leak when they were done because the grommets were too flattened from age.

Not every time, but enough to have an "I told you so" chambered.

 

the washers need to be fitted with the copper-colored side UP........if i remember correctly.

The Hawk is just a rubber grommet with a top chrome cupping washer. I literally just tightened down my Hawk covers before typing this with all new rubber... it was surprising how far I had to keep squishing before the bolts bottomed out. Quite the difference from when I removed them.
