    Hi all,

I saw a few threads on this but I just wanted to verify the type of bulb. My speedo bulb went out last night so I think it's time to do an LED swap for the dash all around. My understanding is that the LCD area (gas/temp/etc) is backlit with an LED already. I'm assuming that these will fit (link below).

Also I'm wondering what color would be best for the tach/speedo, I'm assuming that since the overlay is green the green LED would probably work the best. With my tail light and blinkers I went with colored LEDs since white tends to bleach out through any colored overlays/lenses.

It's not currently LED...... and yes, to me, green seemed best..... this pic taken inside my shop so more like what you might see at night. During the day, it's perfect, you know you have backlighting...... note I have matching green voltmeter and shift indicator. It's likely a bit bright for night riding, but I'm not doing any of that anyway.
Note, DO NOT replace the FI light with an LED, doesn't work, it will stay on all the time...........

The display is not LED backlit. There are two small incandescent bulbs one above and one below the display that shine into clear plastic light piping that distributes the light across the display back. I replaced mine with Sylvania Zevo 194 equivalent LEDs I found at the auto parts store. The display is now a blue color. Those happened to be polarity dependent, so I had to check if they worked first with key on. If they didn't work flipping the bulb around corrected it.

Thank you very much! So the bulbs in my Amazon link above will work for the speedo/tach and I should get the Sylvania 194's for the LCD? Or they are 194's all around?

Search the forums to find everything you need to know. I even have links to the ones I used. Know that polarity matters, so check everything (do they ALL turn on?) before reassembly.

The number isn't as critical for LED, that 194 describes the incandescent bulb's wattage. 194 has the same wedge base as 158, 168 etc. You don't have to go with that Sylvania, it's just what I found at the auto parts store when I was looking for a replacement. The key is you get the correct wedge base size and color temperature for whatever look you're going for. That'll be up to your personal preference. The two bulbs for the display, and the 3 for the gauges are all the same wedge base (T-10?). I think the turn signal bulbs are the same size base as well. The 4 lights in the middle, high beam, N, FI, I believe are smaller. I think those are the T5.

There's a good shot of the back of the instrument cluster in this video:

RaYzerman is correct. I tried the LED swap for the FI and it does stay on. Stranger than truth...

I used LED's from SuperbrightLEDs.com, these are the brightest ones I've found. 194's for the dash lighting, amber ones for signal indicators. I'd have to recheck but I think #74 are the ones for oil, high beam and neutral light. LED doesn't have enough resistance for the FI light, thus will stay on constantly. I put it back to incandescent.
