I need to replace BOTH tires on my 97 and Im finding it hard to get an affordable tire set, cause of the dreaded 170/60/17 rear.

The only affordable ones within my budget are the Bridgestones which I absolutely hate. Limited Dunlops which I dont mind. There's also the Pirelli Angel and Ross II 's which I have no experience with.

I prefer Michelins but the only tire in my size is the expensive Road 6. Over $420 AUD.

My riding is commuting and therefore has to be really good in the wet. I dont care much about longevity as much as getting a good grip on the tarmac.

So given my circumstances, I may have to look into getting a combo tire happening like mixing and matching front and rears. Has anybody done something like this ? Or can offer any suggestions or even words of wisdom?

Oh and I cannot afford a Gen 8 or Gen 3 rear rim. Besides these things are hard to come by in my area. There's also the option of sticking a 180 and be done with it. Again no experience with that on this bike.

    Why don't you consider a 160 rear.

The CBR600F3 had a 5.0 rim and came with a 160. A 180 is not designed for a 5.0 rim. You will have a better contact patch and not fuck up the profile like you would with a 180.

The bike will still be lively and have plenty of tire and grip, and the choices open up immensely.

Just an option to consider if budget is a major contributing factor.

My man, I never thought of that. Would be awesome if I can get the 60 aspect ration as well.

By the way, I have a set of 120/70-17 and 170/60-17 Rosso II on my VF1000F and I like them. No complaints at all, but I don't ride that bike in the rain.

What did Bridgestone ever do to you?

I have used plenty of them over the years, the latest T32s are said to be pretty close to the Road 6 but I haven't tried them. I do like the Michelins and either the Road 5 or 6 are my preference, they wear and grip well and make the steering feel pretty lively.

I find they're too stiff, take ages to warm and are dont give me the same feedback as the dunlops, let alone the michelins.
I had the battlax series. I can't speak for the others. I got good mileage out of them though, but that was mostly highway \ touring with spirited riding and not carrying much weight. Something like 15,000km on the front and 22,000 at the rear.

Michelins road 5 and road 6's are my preference but unfortunately I cannot afford them.

Im looking at downsizing the rear to a 160 as suggest by Captain 80's, and therefore now looking at a matched Michelin Pilot Road 2's.
2 x PR 2's for the less than the price of a Rear, Road 6.

    fkn crazy.

I run a pair of Bridgestone's X41 SR. My closest tar road is 30kms away and with them having a decent tread pattern they run ok on the dirt and fine in rain
