New Michelin Power 2CT on a set of restored F2 wheels. Easy-peasy swap over, just had to move the front rotors to the new wheel.

    Looks great, Capt!

Are "F2" wheels the same as "CBR"?

That one on the right's tail fairing is one of those that also incorporates the battery/side cover. Is that one of the Cobalt racing/Charles Crites or Air Tech or something else?

    Nice photo!

The '87 I brought up from South Florida has one on its rear wheel.

    IMG_9453.JPG

And this '87 I bought back in 2018 both front and back wheels......it's sitting on my lift table right now waiting for me to finish it's restoration.

Thanks - appreciate the info. Love learning new things here!

So the rear wheel would be the 17" x 4.5", right? And ideally, you'd want both front and rear to be the 17" - not just 17" in front and 18" in back, right?

But at least having the 17" in front (and leaving the rear at 18") would be an improvement over the factory 16" in front (with 18" rear)?

    Is that the idea here?

Yeah, its a Cobalt Racing unit. I have some lowers in storage too. Some of the best glass work I have handled.

The F2 rear is 4.5", yes. You can also use a F3 (95-98), it is a 5.0", the two are interchangeable using the same custom spacers. You also use a 160/60 on the F3 rear wheel. The F3 is actually lighter than the F2, but is also more fragile because of it.

Mixing really isn't good, but it has more to do with width than diameter. An original 18" rear and a F2 front you end up with them both being 3.5" wide. And then you have a bias ply rear tire and a radial front. Same goes for the opposite scenario. Nice wide 4.5" rear wheel with a radial and then a 2.5" front with a bias tire.

    Best scenarios are:
Both stock. There is NOTHING WRONG with the stock wheels and new, quality bias tires on a 86/87. It simply works and is proven.

88/89 Euro rear / 87-90 600 Hurricane front. Both are bolt on. Should have a longer shock compensation in rear and slide the forks up in the front. Still 3.5/2.5 and bias ply, but at least 17" and the proportions look better (in my opinion). I have this on one and I like it. You can feel the 17" front.

F2/F3 rear / F2 front. Front requires serious machining for stock forks on a 86/87. Rear is simply spacers and your choice of rear brake mod. All documented on this website. Same ride height compensation applies.
