Attempting a valve lash adjustment on my '84 VF700F and ran into a speed bump of sorts.
I have the shop manual but I think I'm missing something. My issue is that I'm unable to get the rear valve cover off. The front is not a problem but I can't see a way to pull the rear. Do I have to drop the engine a little or is there some trick to it?
    Thank you,
    Gator

There is a trick. It's a twist/angle/lift that clears the frame on one side and the cam caps on the other.

It is very hard to describe and usually takes me a couple tries even though I'm know exactly what I'm trying to do.

Just know it IS possible. Unless you got someone's custom build with a 1000 engine swapped in.

So what I'm hearing is I just need to curse a little more, louder perhaps?
I guess I'll keep at it. I do need better light in that area so maybe I'll revamp that before I get back after it.
Btw, just bought an '89 Hawk in really nice running condition so I can take my time with my VF.
    Thank you,
    Gator

Yes, keep at it. An inanimate object right out side the shop door to beat on and curse at works for me sometimes.

If you are sitting on the bike, I think the left side is the one that clears the frame and the right barely clears the cam caps. It goes from impossible to out of the bike without reason sometimes. And then you think, "WTF did I do differently?".

Hawks are really good VF/VFR companions. I have a couple too. Thought I recognized your username.

    Good luck!

    Did someone say Hawk?
I will be looking at one on Thursday. '91 with 17500 miles all original + a mini screen. Should be interesting. :)

Going kinda full circle on a Hawk? Or is it, "I can't afford not to at least look since I have a place in line."?

yeah. Full circle indeed. I talked to my son yesterday since he owns the black hawk, and we agreed that I could take the black hawk back and he can have the better original red hawk. The bodywork is falling apart on the black hawk and it may need a new starter as well. Can't seem to source a solid tail without cost too much.
So, if this purchase happens, then the black hawk will become a 2 fer 1 track/street using my left over set of RVF 400 bodywork and tank. :) Leave the red one original + some performance upgrades most likely. I might even take it vintage racing. shhhh
