Bit of a strange auction with all the pics and comments (and video) of the carbs and leaking, etc.

Why not find and fix the leak and leave all that out BEFORE you list the bike?

Will be interesting to see how it ends up.

And the carbs have been rebuilt but still leak. Confidence inspiring.

OK but on the positive side.......even though IN GENERAL you'd NEVER want to buy a bike on B.a.T.......what if an auction like this comes up where there are problems that keep the bidding way way down?

And you KNOW you could fix the problems yourself without much expense and/or effort?

I still think it'd end up too high but we'll see......

Zero bids so far ... someone will bid but I think it's a low ball number. Fix the issue / issues and try again.
We will see... you never know.

Super early so give it some time and there will be bids. Especially the last 1/2 hour!

The seller commented he thinks the leak(s) are at the fuel tube o-rings and a kit with new o-rings comes with the bike.

So guessing whomever did the carb rebuild was probably intimidated into splitting apart all the carbs to do the ft o-rings. Or could be they just didn't realize those were something that should be addressed.

A bench test after the rebuild though would have revealed any leakage. But bottomline is something like this on a B.a.T. auction - any auction - might be an opportunity for someone who understands all of this carb. stuff.

Oh I know how auctions go …
Thing is that a good carb mechanic will charge you about $1500 to remove carbs and rebuild them properly with a carb sync. Deduct that from the value of said VFRand the most I would give is $1000 to $1500 and that’s generous being as it’s sight unseen. BUT … it does come with that kickstand pad!
    Hmmmm

All I can say is good luck on sale …

You can buy a replacement set of carbs - fully rebuilt and synced on a bike for $600. This without a core charge. A complete set ready to install.

But I was talking about doing the rebuild yourself. Not something just anyone could do. But some folks on this forum can do it. Including me. Parts would run under $100 so you'd just have an investment of your time.

I'm not trying to argue with you, six. Just presenting a different point of view......

Understood BUT most people would have to get it done professionally. Also, my time is worth something so I take it into consideration when I buy something that needs work. I usually deduct the labor and parts from my price.
Carbs are not that difficult… basically 4 or 6 toilets that meter fuel into a combustion chamber. If you have a FSM and some understanding you can do it yourself but most people selling bikes that need work either don’t know what they are doing or simply lazy.

I guess you could opine that an auction like this might negatively affect valuation for our vintage VFR's.

Maybe not - but I'd still prefer to see them ending much higher.

I'd also bet that if I had submitted a bid......someone else would have bid higher.

    Will do, six!

Just got a message it will be here on Friday.

I bought (and paid for) it 2 months ago!

Probably set a world record for the longest wait for a transport ever! :D

But the transport also included a huge lot of parts and an RC24 engine from a different location. So that complicated things a bit.
