blue one is the daily workhorse, black one is my project/tourer, needs a little paint on the nose but otherwise shes good
I've not owned two bikes of the same model before, do they feel just the same or are there differences?
yes mate, totally, ones on 25k one on 38, 38k seems smoother engine wise and tighter handling wise, its on YSS rear and YSS front springs, the 25k bike seems a bit harsher to ride as its on NITRON rear and K-tech front springs, engine doesn't feel as smooth, both running delkevic headers and both running booster plugs, but yeah, 2 completely different bikes to ride, if i'm honest, the lapis blue bike on 38k is a much better ride than the black one on 25... it feels more planted and definitely changes gear smoother, ive just rebuilt the slave and master and fitted stiffer springs and new clutch plates to the black one and it still feels more harsh changing gear than the other... both on same tyres as well, battlax
That is interesting; I can't quite manage that sort of comparison as I have only ever had one bike from a VFR generation, and (like yours) none are completely stock except the engines. The 5th gen has a much more even power delivery, but the 6th gen (mine is an 09) is ultimately even smoother and loves to be revved more than the 5th, but feels a bit lumpy right off idle.
yeah when they are cold too, not great until really warmed up then hard to fault, starter valves maybe need a tune up ?
When I bought it my 09 had been parked up for a couple of years, it had been failed during a mandatory road worthiness inspection for worn discs and the PO had lost interest in it, as it also needed new CCTs. I spent a fair amount of time unseizing stuck starter valves and carefully balancing these and I've also reset the valve clearances along with the new CCTs, so it starts and idles beautifully, but it does feel like the fuelling is too lean just off idle. I did fit a pair of Micron silencers at one stage and this made the low rev behaviour even worse, which supports a lean condition. I could put a Power Commander on but for the price paid, its not worth doing, and once the bike is over 3k it runs very sweetly. The bike does have a K&N filter which might also be part of the low rev fluffiness.
ah, so not the starter valves then, i put a booster plug on mine after fitting the delkevic headers and black widow tailpipes, seems to have ironed most of it out, have got a power commander sat around here somewhere with software for the decat , i took it off to see what a booster plug was like, just tinkering, i think its actually better now than with the power commander on, not saying it is better but i get no popping or banging at all now whereas i did a bit with the PC fitted, feels better to me
