I'm in the market for a new bike

So I'm in the market for a new bike. I just sold a Aprilia Futura that I really liked.
I bought it for a SPORT tourer, not a sport TOURER but I was worried about getting parts and support. I had no problems with the bike at all. When I first saw the Interceptor I was struck by how similar they are. The HP, the torque, the profile, the seating position are all very similar. I've had Hondas and like the rock solid reliability but I've never had a V4. The Futura not only would run like sport bike, it stirred the soul. So would you buy your VFR again? Is this the bike?

 

I have an 02 for sale down here in Georgia-I would say that it is a SPORT-TOURER, it does both very well. If you are in the area and are interested, drop me a line...take it for a spin and decide for yourself.

Just having fun, but there is some reality to it. sorry 6th gen owners you need to take a 3-4th for a spin some time, I know you guys that have had both know what I'm talking about or forgot But have to agree that Aprilia is a nice sport tour, I'd say they hit it pretty damn close chassis and engine wise just the fit and finish and how it looks holds me at bay. it is what the VFR needs to be of course keeping the V4.

 

The V4 is key, its not the hp but how it is spread out to be usable in real world situations. A good friend of mine that rides a 600cc sportbike took my bike on the return portion of our ride last weekend and he said it was so different that he could ride in a totally different way if he wanted. Actually having usefull power at 4500rpm and the ability to spin up and pull at 9000-10000+ with no problem but still smooth and refined. The only thing he missed is that I still have a stock exhaust so the sound was ok but not what he's used to. The improvements in the chassis and suspension over the years along with the V4 just keep the VFR in a league all its own.

Yea i'd buy another one, but more for the compromise of the SS bikes and the tankerbikes tho than the soul stirring part. I find I get more tingle outa a triple or a ss bike at 16 grand thanks!
On my 5th and 6th gen VFR's, I dont find the sound or the powerband anything special, I do tho, find the total package is!

As for the sport-tourer argument thing..... After I ride the gsxr6 I find the vfr is a tourer..after I ride buddies st1300, I find the vfr a sportbike...

U might find it a bit bland after the futura...JMO

I believe this is what most rumors have been indicating for the last 2-3 years. Wait not, want not. I don't want to speculate on what I think will happen to the VFR in '09....................................................................

 

Hell, I'm looking for ANOTHER 5th Gen so my wife quits bugging me to ride mine.

As many moto-mags have scribbled, (& to which I whole-heartedly agree but then again, I am obviously biased) the 5th Gen is generally considered to be the finest sporting motorcycle ever made. Unless Honda has a pretty nifty rabbit up their sleeve, I don't ever see that changing. No one else on the market has even remotely come close to making the complete package the 5th Gen was/is. These bikes are a few relatively cheap mods away from being the perfect all-around street bike.

You will get such varying opinions on this topic, so I might as well add mine. I have or have had a 2nd, 5th and 6th Gen. First off, they are all great bikes. I still have the 2nd, but it is dated compared to today's bikes. I put 10K miles on the 5th Gen and now have 4K on my 6th Gen. For me, the 6th is the best handling and best suspended. In addition, after lowering the stock gearing, for me, it also has the best motor as well. Over the years, I have also had a number of inlines (CBR), but I have always come back to the V4. For sport touring, I don't think that you can go too wrong with buying any VFR from the 3rd Gen on up.

 

I also used to have a Futura, sold it in October. Thought I may try this bike out, but afraid it may not be powerful enough, any thoughts.

 

I still haven't ridden one, just sat on it. I thought the Futura seat was great so the VFR seat is way to hard to me. The horsepower is about the same, the torque is lower of course. A dealer here says they will have a demo day in the spring. I am going to try to make that.

 

I love my '00 800. Yes I would buy it again.

 

What about us taller guys. I'm 6'2" and I had plenty of leg room on the Fut, how is it here?

 

Didn't know what I was getting into....

I've had my 07 RWB for 3 days now. A nice long ride first day and commuting yesterday and today. I figured out the shift points. Following the manual shift points, I'd get a click when engaging the clutch, IMO too slow. Then I tried revving to @ 3K or more for each shift. The bike shifted smooth no more click, smooth shifting. The V4 likes it when you accelerate with authority and slip it into gear. Keep up the revs and it's a whole different ballgame. Duh!!!!
My BMW R1100RS is a Sport-Tourer, a little bigger with a torquey twin and a way different approach to the same goal. I was amazed how it handled on the Bear Tooth Hwy Montana, this summer. I wore down my tires on the edges not the middle on this trip. It a long haul tourer for sure, you can burn a whole bunch of miles with it in a day. I was also reminded you can have some sport fun with it too. In Florida we don't have twisties.

Having said all that:
I guess it's all about the type of riding you prefer. The Honda gives me an entirely different approach to sport touring, keeps me interested. It's all about that V4....I Love it. I also enjoy my BMW, after two LD trips totalling 19K I have a lot of respect for the Boxer Twin.

 

I've been riding since I was 16 (1968 305 Suzuki). I sold my 2001 VFR which had 25,000 miles on it (I bought it brand new) and bought a 2006 VFR, so yes, I did buy another VFR.

I can't live without one! OH, and if you are worried about power, check out the following table. An R1 does the quarter mile in 11.0, the VFR, 11.4, that's 4 tenths of a second faster in a quarter mile or 1.6 seconds in a mile. Not a big deal, to me.

I'm the first to agree that the VFR has enough Hp to make it fun but a word of caution. The R1 your comparing it to is a 2000, an '06 runs the 1/4 in 9.7 and the newer ones aren't any slower. Again, not saying the VFR is slow but it's not in the liter sport bike class as far as Hp.

i think the 6th gen runs 11.22@119 in quarter cw test the guy on that r1 musta been his first ride on a motorcycle ever or just a fried clutch......all liter bikes now r in 9's with a true pro rider think the zx6 stock strapped gadson ran 9.97 on a 600!! ive had and compare the the ninja hurricane fzr1000 gsxr600 750's zx 10 06n07 ive ridin or owned and the vfr is the best well balanced of all its right in the middle good smooth power you can manage unlike zx10 comfort all day unlike gsxrs stable stable stable i let go bars 80 no head shake at all brakes r awesome can stoppie if you want turns into corners with confidence and great feedback thats with stock suspension imageine olins front back whoa!! starts up first hit of the button no choking let it run only thing it does off idle stumble sometimes pc3 supposed to fix that ill find out soon.,reminds me of the old hurricane just heavier and faster that was my favorite bike of all maybe because i was young but vfr reliabilty looks handling comfort you cant beat it wanna go racing get an r6 want to tour get bmw12 want it all get the vfr id buy another becuase you can drag your knee ride a wheelie do a stoppie then ride outta state..............
