"Soon to be owner" is NOW AN OWNER!

Ok, Kids...it is now official! :smile: I picked up my new 2007 red ABS VFR800 in Phoenix on Saturday and rode home to Tucson (via the back way so as to vary that throttle). What a wonderful machine! So glad I went up there to save me from the Captain Americas down here (no red ABS here in Tucson and they were the only shop up there with a red ABS). I was a wee bit nervous tooling around up there in the traffic and even ended up on the Pima/Maricopa Indian Reservation before finding my way back to Scottsdale to meet my fiancee at the fancy mall. Talk about contrast! I only had to ride through one fist fight in the middle of the street on the Res! Holy mole...the loser was looking as red as my VFR! Then it was giving free fashion advice to the well-heeled ladies in the dressing room area while watching my fiancee (Rich Chicks dig advice from strange boys in Sidi boots and bike pants...or maybe it was the black turtleneck?) The bike is just what you all say...like Teflon and velvet. I rode home 140 miles on Sunday and it felt great. I found it interesting that the "manual" (never seen anything with so little real info...not even a bulb designation...just wattage) does not mention RPMs in the break in period...just no "full throttle accelerations." I kept it below 5K for the first 50 miles and it has not been above 6k yet (about 240 miles currently).
I cannot thank everyone enough who contributes for all of the wealth of info and advice. It made me SURE that I wanted a VFR. Just got some Dainese leathers here in Tucson so I feel like I am on top of the world. Yippee!!! Let's ride!

Thanks folks! And of course, I didn't mean to say the RWB scheme is ugly, just not for me...it is a COOL look but I like the monochrome look better...the lines show through a bit better.

I will be picking up my new 06 this Friday. I wish it could ride mine home but the high temp on the day i pick it up is supposed to be about 20 i think and as i am going over 4 hours to pick it up, I dont think i would enjoy the trip home. Me and the better half will haul a trailer and go pick it up. She was nice enough to go along and keep me company. Really looking forward to getting it, but will be looking at the weather in hopes of finding a few warm days to get her out and stretch her legs a bit. Congrats on your new purchase. Getting a new bike is always cool .

 

Congrats on the new bike, and it's OK if the RWB does not suit you because everyone knows that the Red is the fastest of all VFR's :smile:

derstuka, I remember reading somewhere that the 5th Gen's are allowed, but you have to let the residents know a week ahead of time when you will be coming and which route you'll be taking. Something about a whining noise disturbing domestic animals and infants...?

Like you I just purchased a "new" Veefer mine being a showroom '06 but unlike you mine gets to stay inside until the riding weather returns here which should be in about 3 months.

 

This is way out in left field for this thread, but I would dearly love to own an old bevel-drive Ducati some day, just because of the wonderful mechanical noises they make (when they are running, that is).

 

You should equally be applauded for surviving the Res and Scottsdale all in one day. I'm glad you and the bike made it out of the Valley.

 

Clarification: Just want to be sure to say that I meant no disrespect with my Reservation comments. I personally greatly respect American Indians and deplore the conditions many have to endure. Living in AZ for 30 years has given me a great appreciation for the various Indian cultures. I felt so sad to see the bloodied "loser" of the fight. It was an ugly scene. And, many of the people in Nordstroms appeared much more misguided and sad than that fight I witnessed. Both sets seemed oblivious to what is going on in the world around them. I try to always remember how blessed I am to have such a beautiful machine that isn't really "necessary..." :blah: :blah: :blah:
