Who Hates Harley Davidson?

This is one of the t-shirts I made on my computer. I wear it often.

 

Hate 'em..........

 

Two things I dislike about them and that's at the top of the list. The other is the damn horrendous NOISE that every single owner seems to require from one.

 

I do in fact hate the bikes. There is not a single HD made that is competitive in anything. They are ugly, slow, heavy, un-reliable, un-comfortable, etc. About the only thing I can think of that HD's do well is they supposedly get good MPG's. The few Orange & Black slathered cult members I know tell me low 50's are quite normal.

I don't hate the owners with the exception of the as$holes previously discussed. I NEVER go out of my way to start crap with HD owners. It's always just the opposite, they start with the rest of us. When I teach MSF classes, just about half are going to be on a HD. EVERY SINGLE TIME, one of them has to drop some tired old cliche about the supposed inferiority of ANY other brand. It gets old. I make myself feel better by out riding them. That is (naturally) way to easy since 75% of them can barely turn the bike around in a parking lot with out killing someone.

The reason I posted this little thread is because I live in Southern Delaware and there are very few good curvy roads nearby, so the straight line riding Harley crowd come out of the woodwork and I have another year of their s#@t to look forward too. And like KC-10FE, I am a MSF Coach and we are getting ready to gear up and start coaching in March, which the classes will be filled with the Harley worshippers and all the comments that come with them.

The Harley "attitude" most of you have stated you have disdain for is EXACTLY where most of my hatred is aimed at! And when you try and coach these people, who have the IQ of a potato, you really grow tired of the comments and downright nastyness they often direct at anybody who has a bike that does not have Harley attached to it in all its chrome glory.

And KC, I understand wanting to outride them, but they don't deserve it. They are not interested in becoming a proficient motorcyclist. They just want the license so they can purchase the image...let them.

I like Harley Davidsons. I think the company has been very successful designing and marketing its bikes.

I wouldn't buy any of them 'cause I am not interested in owning a cruiser or a heavy tourer.

Nobody's challenging Harley's marketing. They have been very successful at marketing their overpriced POS machines to the overpaid morons who buy them. That is brilliant! Its every capitalists dream to sell there product for maximum profit. Again, I have no issue with that, however, I suggest you check out the most excellent magazine called "Motorcycle Consumer News". See how they have rated all the latest and greatest that has come out of Harley.

If you can't find the article I can sum it up: Except for a few machines in the new line-up...they suck!

I am not trying to flame you, once you read the ride report in MCN its sobering to see the price for the trash Harley sells. If Harley was a drug dealer, sombody would have shot them for the low quality crap they are letting on the street at those prices.

I love Harleys, it's the only street I have ever seen jump over cars and buses. Never seen a VFR do that.

 

I'd say that's because there has never been a VFR owner STUPID enough to try it. :fear: :target:

 

Ah, BZ, all is becoming clear now... Kind of like me and all of the tourists (May through September is absolute torture in my neck of the woods), but at least I do not have to work with them, which is probably why I have not been jailed for homicide. Be that as it may...

I do have to admit that whenever I read about a Harley "innovation" or "improvement" in one of the two most popular cycle mags, they are technically non-events but are alluded to as being somethiong special. It especially bothers me when I read that drivel about the "intentional vibration". Apparently Harley customers WANT the bike to vibrate, so that's the way they make them. What a good and glorious idea; a motor vehicle that can cause injury or death if a critcal mechanical item loosens or falls off, and it is designed to vibrate. Good thinking. The exception I will make to that is the hydro-forming of the VROD frame, just because that was innovative.

And when I read the road tests, well, it's kind of like praising your dog for only crapping on the carpet once a week instead of once a day. Compared to most other motorcycles, they are slow, heavy, and over-priced for what you get. You can chrome-plate a dog turd, but it is still a dog turd.

As for Dealer Service: One of my relatives still has his old '47 knuckle (and newer BMW's), and he can't stand going to a Harley dealer for parts. As he puts it: "If I was looking for a leather Tee shirt or an alarm clock that says 'Harley' on it, I'd be covered. Last time I was there, I had to go into the parts room myself to find the carb kit I wanted". Understand that he has been around Harleys for a long time, and he can't stand the newer generation of the typical H-rider.

I know two people who have newer Harleys that are pretty good guys and fairly easy to get along with. As soon as they get on their bikes and start making noise, their facial features immediately assume "the look", i.e. Bad-Ass Criminal Type, looking for any excuse to inflict badness on those who be disrespectin' their butts. The really silly thing is that the attitude remained for the duration of the ride and at every place we stopped, and I started to get the feeling that I was somehow raining on their parade by not making mean faces at strangers. Probably my feelings of deep-rooted insecurity... Needless to say, I avoid riding with them. Oh, yeah, did I mention that one is an accountant, and the other a PCB designer? Truly frightening and dangerous individuals.

And I really think that is the crux of the whole Harley frustration for me, as it seems to be for others. It's a motorcycle; no more, no less. Riding one does not transform a human into a Force To Be Reckoned With, but you wouldn't know it from the typical attitude.

You know, Bubba, what is kind of comical is when I think of myself trying to go grocery shopping at the height of tourist season. I have given considerable thought to publicly beating some of the more self-important jack-asses in the hope that others might learn, and mend their evil ways. I suspect you go through the same thing.

I read this somewhere, and try to remember it; "Do not take anything away from someone. It may be all they have." Sad, but true.

As long as they stay out of my way and don't assault my ears, I don't mind them. Ok, I hate them.

 

No offense taken. As I said, I wouldn't want to own one because I am not excited by the types of bikes Harley Davidson makes. However, I understand that HDs are popular because HD riders want an image that only a HD can provide. Brilliant marketing! I see that same "image really matters" attitude in a lot of Ducati riders, too. How many times have you heard a Ducati owner blather on about how his bike has a soul! Gawd, it makes me sick! It's a machine! It has no soul. Still, there's room on the road for everybody.

 

Please tell me that you're joking or drunk. Please.

Cant say i hate Harley's go ridding sometimes with a good buddie he has one. gota say when i ride with him theres no biker waves from metrics or Harleys. i guess a vfr and a Harley should not ride together, bad carma

 

Who hates Harleys

The way i look at it is a bike is a bike,who cares what you ride.As long as you
ride! As prev stated it seems that the nicest people become idiots the minute they trow aleg over a harley! I have a riding buddy who's fav saying is"NOT ALL HARELY RIDERS ARE A$$*#@^S BUT MOST A$$*#@^S OWN HARLEYS".

 

Yes I think they're allright for somebody else. The only thing I notice is that Hoggly Ferguson riders NEVER wave when you pass 'em.
