I tried to search the Forums for this but didn't see anything than a few passing mentions...What do you all think about using flashing brake light LEDs. The Hyperlites are the main ones that come to mind. They have several types...the main ones being some that flash ALL the time when brakes are applied (with an optional setting to make them flash for only 5 seconds and then go steady with each brake application) and some that are just like regular brake lights (they do not flash). (Go to www.hyperlites.com to see them) Are they useful? Too distracting for cagers? Road rage-producing? (I have seen em on other bikes and they caught my attention.)

Oh, they ALSO have very bright non-flashing WHITE LEDs for the front fork. They are not meant to see by but to make us more visible from the front. (Check out their video of these on their site) What do you think about those?

Hey Nungboy, I just installed the Hyper Lites on mine back in December. They are awesome! Good kit, and good instructions. If you go with the Hyper Lites, make sure you order the bracket so they can attach on your license plate below the main brake light.
You have an option of the lights flashing for as long as you hold the brake or flashing for 5 seconds then remaining solid.

Picture of mine installed. Tried to get a picture of them on, but just washes out. Also had to cover my tag because I never know what "Derstuka" is going to do:biggrin:

    Here's my version:

The light is designed for law enforcement motorcycles, so tough as hell. It does 3 quick flashes then goes solid. It's a bit too bright so I have aimed it down just a notch so only the bugs retinas get fried. As like the hyperlights it was designed for extreme low current draw to keep your electrical system happy.

I saw a bike in NYC last weekend, the back end looked like a carnival, ALLLL lit up. Flashers, the LED tailight went from blue to red to white one side to the other then back, but also acted normal when needed with brake lights and so on. I want to know how this guy did it, because it looked awesome, and you could NOT miss that guy on the highway, his riding partner just had his hazards flashing to mimic the effect. I guess in a big city, you gotta do what you gotta do.

But for a nice cool LED taillight I would sell a kidney.

HELP, is this a seperate light independent of the stock brake light or are there electronics that you connect to your brake light wiring to make the stock break lite flash? eddie

Most anything to make you more visible is a good idea. I would be for something more visible.

Eddie Cap: no, it is a separate light...actually, generally TWO small clusters of LED's that most guys mount to their license plate. You have to see the website to get a feel for them...they are VERY noticeable.

DerStuka: When did you become a Moderator? Congrats! (Should I be scared?) Oh, and you two bring up a good point...why do so many posters on this and other sites obscure their license plates? In some pics, one can see plate numbers clearly? What are people "ascared" of?

And to all: how about those non-flashing, white FRONT LEDs that Hyperlites sell to be more visible from the front? You all need to get on their site, click on their video and let us all know what you all think...good thing to have? DON'T MAKE ME START ANOTHER THREAD FOR THESE! (lol)

    Nung,

I paid off Michael enough that he made me a Mod. No, be scared not grasshopper, you are my wing-man!

I obscure my license plate as well...because anybody that has access to a police/government database, they will know your address, what you buy for groceries, and the color of your wifes underwear in about 5 mins. Not that I don't trust the regulars on here, it is the thousands of other (hackers) trouble makers that scroll thru looking for info.

Ah, so...thank you sensei! Me now understand. I kinda thought something like that was the case. Kind of a drag because I had wondered about starting a thread like "What is your VFR-related vanity license plate?" I have a cool one coming and know that plenty of guys have them. (I did notice that "VFR" was already taken here in Arizona but plenty of others were available...VEE4, VIFFR, etc.)

Oh, and by the way...what color IS the GF partial to? Sorry, I had to ask!

Viffr is better on a plate than VFR to me anyways. Like the sound of viffer. Start the thread, some people might dig on it.

Oh, btw, the gf mixes it up....goes from green to pink, to blue, to white, whatever else VS carries....variety.

Derstuka is correct. I'm not worried about the people on this forum, but it's the other million or so people that may be trying to access your information or steal your identity. I don't want to give them any more ammunition than I have to.
I had a case where someone stold the information off my credit card, so I'm super paranoid now. It's pretty scary when you get a call from your credit card company asking if you purchased $500 worth of games at Game Stop when you live in NW Arkansas. I asked how can they use a credit card at a business, when it's in my back pocket. Credit card company stated that allot of times when you go out to eat, they (waiter, who knows) will scan your card on a device that copys the magnetic strip.
Anyway, didn't mean to venture off the subject, just be careful.

Well, there is a new License Plate thread now...I do understand the idea of not spreading around your info but if one drives around all day with one's plate visible (as it has to be of course), do people go "phishing" that way? Or, is it just a technique for the on-line phishers because it aids on-line nefarious activities?

I think you nailed it with your second question. I look at it as some hackers trying for info from Nigeria, Thailand, or whatnot. They can already gain your IP address, then they have your plate number, and if you give them your full name they already have that. This is off subject, but I had somebody steal my debit card number, and go for a $1300+ dollar shopping spree at Office Depot a few years back. I know this is "totally" different than your plate number, but still, some hackers, phishers (or whatever they are called) are just looking for whatever info they can get to cause mayhem.

The more they know, the better chance they have to assimilate your life, get you to answer their SPAM e-mails, etc. What a world we live in eh? THANK GOODNESS we at least have the trade off of better motorcycles, musical instruments and fine music to off-set the modern madness! (Oh, and the tequila and scotch is better than the old days too!)

I am still waiting to here back about my very wealthy recently deceased great uncle in Nigeria. All I had to do was forward them my SSN, credit card info, birth certificate, and 10,000 bucks to cover processing fees....and for that I get 4 million bucks! Wooo hooo! I am still waiting...anyday now!

Here's a coupla pics of mine. I installed electro pods where the reflector was and put some lighted license plate bolts on and wired them to my brake lights. The l.e.d.s flash constantly when the brake is applied.

I can only hope one of them assimilates my ex-wife then... they can also assimilate the credit rating I had when I was with her that took a few years for me to repair!
