Just curious if you guys know how fast the bike goes at 8k RPMs in second gear. I hit barely over 8 yesterday, felt the front lift up, so I took my eyes off the gauges before I could see the MPH. Just curious

might ride to work in the morning I'll let you know then. Can't decide if I want to ride an hour in 21 degree weather just yet.

Eek, that's a bit cold! I'd check myself, but I'd rather put a few more miles under my belt before more wheelies.

Depends on your final gearing. I use lower (than stock) gearing on my bike for a bit more grunt and to save the clutch in traffic. The 750's had high (track) gearing, not sure if the 700's used the same stock cogs.

Frost on the windsheilds this morning so I opted to take the cage, tommorow is supposed to warmer. I am running a slightly altered final drive my self but it should be close I just jumped up to a 48 tooth rear sprocket. Wanted a little more low end & has the added affect of keeping the chain off the swing arm. Stock gearing is 16/45 which equals a 2.81:1 final drive ratio, my current set up of 16/48 gives me a straigh 3.00:1 ratio not a huge difference but noticable.

Have you at least tried accelerating sllooowwwllyy? Try finding a long stretch of road and just ease up. You could even shift your body so that the weight is on the bars if you keep gettting a wheelie.

    Welll here is what happened:

I had to quickly get to the side of the road because I thought a bee was inside my helmet, turned out to be some bug. It was a long, straight, smooth stretch with no cars around so I decided to go a liiiiitle fast (nothing crazy, just feel an ounce of power). I didn't dump the clutch and rolled on the throttle easy thinking I would avoid any lift. I shifted out of 1st at like 5k RPMs and rolled easy through 2nd gear leaning forward all the way. Once I hit 8K it was like a fire lit up inside my bike (nothing like the previous owner said it felt like).

I did everything I could think of to prevent the wheelie, but I guess thats just what happens to little girls on big bad VFRs. It wasn't even a big one, just a few inches off the ground. I was just happy that I wasn't scared by it (probably from previous riding experience on other machines), got her on two wheels safely, and naturally I enjoyed it!

every once in a while I get the fire as well. I don't feel like I'm doing anything different, then smooth a milk, she'll get up and gallop like she been stung by a bee. I imagine blue flames coming out of the exhaust, lean forward and glide away.

ive never ridden a fuel injected bike so i dont know has that feel, but that "fire" feeling is a great feeling. these bikes really wake up in the 7-8000 rpm range. i was wondering if the F.I bikes have the same power surge like the carb'd bikes?

I didn't pay attention to 2nd gear, but during yesterday's ride, I found that 8k rpm in 6th is 115mph!

    How fast is....

I have had the front wheel lift many times in 2nd gear when the vtec kicks in. It's either back off or shift and depends whether I am out on the open road if I keep it going or not. Great feeling that rush of power. :) Usually I have my eyes on the road not the speedo but at 8k is probably around 65mph.

I just had mine lift when I shifted into second. It was the smoothest lift I have ever felt. And it even settled back down easily. God I am loving this bike.

Just tell them that you saw a squirrel running accross the road and you had no choice but to lift the front wheel to save the poor critter.

Come to think of it that's why I scrape my pegs and drag my knee. I figure that by doing that I'm creating better traction for the animals so they can run accross the road faster and therefore avoid risk of getting run over.

I am a parent. My daughter is 21 !!!! and she has her old man's attitude!!!Simple answer is big time NO. If they ask, don't lie but don't make them older than they already are.

Yeah, I am really trying to not say anything to them about the motorcycle. They know I have one, but were definitely against it. My dad has had more motorcycles in his lifetime that years I am old too!! He tried to offer me $5000 for my bike if I never bought another one, but I just couldn't do it.

    Yup,

I can see my daughter someday getting herself a bike. Doubt that she will ever want to ride the VFR. She is kinda petite. About 5'3" and maybe 110 lbs. The boy is not the slightest bit interested. Suggested he try on one of my helmets and he said "what for"? I suggested he may want to get his Class 6. "No Way" was said in a very plain and audible manner.

Not to further the hijack, but...
My oldest just turned 16 and she is already a world traveler, bunjie jumper, sky diver. She is the only one who wants to ride two up with me. Keeps asking me to pick her up at school on the bike. She is the one who will have a bike.
At least it is me that she is riding with and not some dork/invinceable/teen boy.
