I’m currently riding my fourth VFR, all 5th Gens (context: a blue one, now sold. Yellow one, now riding. Silver one I purchased as salvage, now in the hands of a good friend and finally, a red one we’ve salvaged for parts.). Cutting into the wiring has benefited 3 of those bikes with no adverse effects.
