Hello everyone. I'm trying to undo some previous owner modifications. The spot where the "Frankenstein Bolts" that hold on the rear cowl (cowl setting bolt and collar) had the wrong bolts in it. I bought OEM replacements for the Frankenstein Bolts and installed them today. It seems like something is missing. Is there supposed to be a rubber grommet in the plastic, or some other kind of spacer between the threaded part on the frame and the plastic? When I installed the bolts, the plastic was loose (like a 5mm gap) and the flare on the collar seemed to be just larger than the hole in the plastic.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you. I do have both #27 and #28 from the drawing. Here is a picture. Fully screwed in, the cowl is loose and can wiggle maybe 5mm back and forth.

Any advice? Even a pic of your bike would help. Thanks.

That must be it! I didn't know what those parts were from the parts diagram, but it makes sense now. I'm guessing most of those get lost because most folks leave the solo-cowl on and those plugs end up in a drawer somewhere, only to be thrown out.

Should those parts be painted? The pics google shows me they look like black plastic.
    Thanks again!!!

Yeah, they are black plastic. You only see that from the top part of the tail....you could leave black or if you wanted paint. Most guys leave it black.
