Cross-training might be the answer for some people. I've always learned to adjust to the bike, not the other way around.

I just got back from a long swim after light weight lifting yesterday. It's too cold to ride right now but when weather allows, I ride with strength in a beat up body. Both of my shoulders are "ruined" but I can still ride a VFR all day in twisties because they stay decently strong and so do my legs from swimming. Works for my beaten body. At the same time I talk about strength, learning to relax your muscles on the bike is a better solution, at least for me. Got to have some to relax tho...... FWIW.
