Having trouble with my oil light blinking when idling. It only happens after driving for a while a really heating up the engine... I know I put in the wrong oil, which i'm going to change. Could it be anything else? Also, my seat is almost touching the rear tire... What's a new shock going to do to my wallet? This is my first bike, and I feel like its going to be a money pit. Any advice on these things?

    :welcome:

    How many miles ??

........most honest advice i could give is to get rid of the bike as soon as possible while it still runs. oil light is an indication of low oil pressure, likely sign that engine bearings are worn.

Money pit?? you ain't seen nuttin yet.:homer:

( IGNORE me if you want; i'm a fully accredited pessimist concerning the early VF series bikes)

What is your idle speed? Should be 1000rpms +-100. Low idle may cause that. Otherwise listen to Squirrel. If you can't do all the work on that bike yourself. Then you better find a sugar momma$$$

I concur with GreyVF750F. Low idle could do that, but I am curious - what grade oil did you put in the bike? 10-40 W or something else? Motorcycle oil or something else?

Your shock is an air shock. Is it holding pressure? I have an extra that still holds pressure and works as well as it ever did. Which isn't very good compared to modern standards.

That's something you need to try.....boost idle to 1100 rpm, change oil to 20W-50, hope the light goes off.
