Today was the day to move the ER out of the RC24 tank and into the next tank......from the RC15 I received last week. This tank is cosmetically challenged but can be saved plus I presume was the original tank that came on the bike and I have the correct key for the fuel cap.

After removing the ER from the RC24 tank I washed it out with water and then dropped some MMO in it to help with any flash rusting. It looks fantastic inside so stoked about that.

Here is the material left over after draining out the ER.

Speaking of tanks, I stuck my endscope inside the Blue tank that came with the parts/donor bike last week and was able to (barely) verify it had the same key code as the ignition key and the helmet lock/seat release lock - D21. Why go to all this trouble? Because I couldn't get the fuel cap lock to turn and needed some verification that I had the right key. So I figured here's another gummed up lock that will need treatment.

So that tank is now upside down with a gallon of ER in it.

Also, the RC24 I got last week came without a key or key code. The tank had no fuel cap either. No worries, got a new fuel cap on her with keys. But what about the ignition? I knew I could get the key code from either the ignition assy. or the seat release/helmet holder lock. The latter seems to be the easiest to access so last night I removed the tail frame assembly and using a Dremel cut disc got the lock bracket loose enough to read the key code (C33). Next up will be sending an order in for new keys, which 'should' in theory fit the ignition. This bike will have 2 keys then - fuel cap and ignition/seat release/helmet holder.

I know - the bike needs a bath too.......baby steps......

Trying to get some of this stuff resolved while navigating the freaking heat and my other time constraints. Heck - you should see the work I've already put in processing all the parts I got last week. Time consuming but is worth it in the long run for someone like me with so many bikes that need work done on them.

Last night for example I replaced the alternator gasket on the White '87 I brought up from South Florida and got running. I had taken the cover off as part of the process of getting her running again and guess the old gasket wasn't in good enough condition to do it's job. Hey sometimes they are- and sometimes they aren't. Fortunately I had a brand new replacement gasket that came with a bunch of parts I bought from Joe Nelson. And the best part is because I invested some time in organizing my spare parts - I knew where I had it!

Hey you know what works great getting old paper gaskets off? Those razor knives they sell at HF for a buck. :)

Not to sound corny but I hate to see these incredible bikes in a forgotten state. They deserve more. Heck, I'm as guilty as anyone else too as when I couldn't get my clutch working right I parked mine in my garage where it sat for years.

We'll have some cooler weather at year's end and that will be "go time". Like I said, right now just trying to keep going on some of it. Long ways to go....thanks!
