We are those same kids. I am not sure the young know how to ride a bicycle.

 

Around here they are on e-bikes popping wheelies all day long in traffic… very stupid and dangerous. Just like I was back in the 70’s on my Schwinn Stingray!

Yeah, they are giving a bad name to potential motorcyclists...lol One of our e-bikers was hit by a chevy 2500 turning right. Not sure the circumstances but the e-biker was in an ambulance. They are now impounding e-bikers when they do the wheelies and running lights.

 

I don't think this petcock allows me to shut the fuel off.

It only has 3 positions: on, res, and pri.

I had to put a cap over the outlet to test the new sealing work I did. It does not leak....for now anyway.

Not having a shut off sucks. I guess when I re-install I will have to drain all the fuel out, which isn't a lot, but still an extra step I'd rather not be forced into.

 

I guess what threw me off was the seller told me the "on" and "res" were swapped, but didn't mention anything about the "off" position not being "off". So I just assumed the "pri" position was the "off" position. Learn something new every day.....

 

Well on PRI it will not let gas through unless you provide vacuum to the petcock … not a “true” off but it will act as one … no?

The opposite. It let's fuel through without a vacuum......the "PRI" apparently stands for "Prime".

Yes there is.....

I'll have to plug it back in the carb when I reinstall.

 

Ok so then gas should not come out unless vacuum is applied … no?

That is how it works when the petcock lever is in the "on" or "reserve" position.

In the "pri" position - it's wide open from the tank to the fuel line/carb......

 

I guess fuel shouldn't come out then in either "on" or "off" if there's no vacuum, I'll try that but have to plug up that little opening....

OK. Now there is no fuel coming out in either "on" or "res"...whether or not the little vacuum opening is plugged or not. So that is my "off" position, I guess.

Problem solved!

Like I said...the mix-up for me was not realizing "pri' wasn't "off".

I feel much better now and will try to re-install the tank tomorrow.

 

Maybe I should make some little labels for the petcock bezel too.....

 

CBX is ready to go. Fresh paint, carb sync , valves adjusted, new plugs and wires , brakes fluid flush, fork oil replaced and of course a good clean and lube for the chain …

Absolutely gorgeous Sixdog! I'm very jealous. A fun fact, when I worked part-time at a Honda dealership in the 1980's we used a CBX as the "shop-hack" to run errands on. I had the privelege of riding the CBX up the motorway when the front tyre decided to go flat, which was my first front flat tyre ever and not as much fun as you might hope...

 

SICK! I love that bike!! Beautiful, nice work!!!
