These VFR's have been parked next to each other in my brother's garage for the last 26 years. The 86 is mine and the 87 was my twin brothers. Sadly, he passed away last year after a valiant battle with cancer. We rode them sparingly over the years to keep the mileage low. This week I reached a purchase agreement with my sister-in-law for his bike and took it home, as well and taking my 86 with it. They'll remain together until my time here is up. RIP Bill, it's in good hands with me.

Condolences on your loss. Cancer sucks. I just lost a long time client that way. He was younger than me and a really good person. Left behind a wife of 40 years and 2 daughters.

Mourn the loss, but also celebrate a truly wonderful life he surely had. Especially with a brother like yourself.

God's peace to you and yours.

You've done a lovely thing, and I'm sorry for your loss. I'm amazed that you had to buy it...

Sorry for your loss and try to enjoy the bikes. I would imagine (and I could be wrong), that your brother would have wanted you to keep riding. So get out there and keep those miles up with a smile!

Thanks Bazza. He got sick years after responding to WTC on 9/11. He fought it fought 8 years ingesting over 120 rds of chemo. All while living his life to the fullest extent. These bikes have been side by side for the last 26 years. He and I both said to one another that they should remain together, no matter what. So now they sit in my garage. And hopefully remain together for many years to come.

Thanks Bmart. That makes 2 of us. But the important thing to me is that I have it.

Thanks Rogue. You are correct. He wanted to keep riding. We rode these sparingly over the years to keep the mileage low. We had other motorsport interests as well that kept us from riding these a lot. We put a few hundred miles a year on fun rides together. His 87 has 95xx miles on it and my 86 has 11,5xx on it. They need some servicing now from sitting but nothing substantial. Winter project.

Thanks Joe. He was a team leader on Newburgh PD SWAT. They, along with many other area PD tactical units were requested to respond in the aftermath of WTC on 9/11. He spent 3 weeks at Ground Zero. His assignment was to escort dignitaries from the Hudson River piers 92 and 94 to GZ and to assist NYPD ESU in anything they needed. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016. The mutation of his cancer was directly related to the exposures he experienced at WTC. His condition eventually forced him into disability retirement from the PD in 2017. He fought the disease for 8 years, receiving over 120 rounds of chemo in that time. A true warrior to the end. He was my identical twin. I miss him terribly. Having his long-owned VFR in my possession gives me a bit of peace.

Thank you for your brother's service. Indeed - a warrior 'till the end! You have a lot to be proud of.

This might be the best ever thread I've seen on the forum.

    Carry on.......
