1998 VFR 800 Speedo works but odometer doesn't. Trip meter was working till I overtightened chain. Battery died. Help?
Do you have any info at all in the digital panel? It is not uncommon for corrosion (in the circuit tracks of the display) to cause issues with the display. To the best of my knowledge, the speedo and odo both utilise the pulse signal from the speed sensor against the front sprocket nut, so no point thinking about that as a source.
I overtightened the chain which caused catastrophic problems. Dead battery, no odometer or tripmeter, stalling when parked. This morning I loosened the chain & voila' tripmeter, battery & stalling fixed. Ordered an aluminum replacement coupler. Will update about odometer once part is installed.
