what, no gold-plated driveway ? :pinky:

according to bikemags at the time, without the HRC kit parts, the rc30 was a bit slower than the off-the-shelf ZX-7R at less than half the $$$$$.

The driveway is getting done next week, they didn't have enough gold to cover the whole thing.....as far as the comparison , yawn.

    Congratulations!

As a former 10 year owner I know how you feel.

I recommend that you get some aftermarket bodywork (tanks are a little tougher to source, so be careful lol) and appropriate tires and do a track day or two (or 3 or 4....). It's an odd thing-- pretty much any supersport 600 from the mid-aughts will be faster, but you won't mind a bit. They really are a magical-feeling bike on the track.

I've had an RC30 for fifteen years, and I've never ridden a better bike. However, what transforms it and changes its nature entirely is a less-restrictive exhaust (..the restrictive 'crimp' in the original downpipes is shocking!) It's as civilised as a gen5 with the OEM system on it, but put a race system on there and it becomes a snarling cackling thing with real performance & on-the-road presence.

Talking of on the road: It's on the road - not billiard-smooth racetracks - where it shows its real worth. And a lot of bikes are faster in a straight line (..not least because of the RC's extremely high bottom gear). However, its composure on bumpy British A & B roads is astounding, and something no owner could adequately convey. You really need to ride/live with one for a time to 'get' what only an owner knows.

As to the HRC-kitted versions.. Steve Hislop (in his autobiography) claimed he was faster around the IOM on his Production bike. He found the extra power of the factory bikes made them more difficult to ride.

    Steve

    Here's one for Squirrelman.

We had a ZX7-RR at the Honda Shop for a bit that was a trade in. The most uncomfortable sport bike I have ever ridden. Handled pretty good though.

Jeez, that is the most stunning beautiful V4 Honda. If Honda would come out with a bike with the same body/wheels but with modern suspension and brakes, I'm on it! (Hey, I can dream..)

then you never rode a duc748, it's worse. heavy to turn in, but no bumps could move it off the line you wanted.
