My 86 700 fuel pump finally quit on me. Well actually, it is leaking.

I have a few extra fuel pumps laying around that I got off ebay / amazon but none of them work correctly. I get that slight chug while at a constant speed or they pump their heart out. I ended up getting the old one to work. Now that it is leaking I need to find a replacement or make something work.

I am leaning toward running it as gravity but would like to hear any inputs about aftermarket pumps you are using or recommendations you have. Thanks

the same Mitsubishi fuel pump was used on dozens of bikes from all makes between about 1979 to 1998, so finding one in a breakers yard should be ez.

test for some resistance between pump wires to see if it might run; infinite resistance or zero means pump is shot. sanding contact points can help sometimes, and valving can be checked by blowing.

if u get the "wrong" pump, wiring and hose connection mods can be done easily for your bike.

best to try using an old OEM pump b4 buying cheap chinese copies, and gravity feed is sub-optimum.

I have a couple of amazon/ebay/junkyard/old bike pumps, they are just old. They don't work correctly. I replaced the electronic bits from the top of the fuel pump on the OEM and got another year out of her.

I have an OEM pump on it now. The problem is it is leaking from the center. Where the top half meets the bottom half. Is it easy to rebuild? Should I take it apart and see if its repairable?

This is a good long term solution if you decide to keep a stock pump but want to eliminate the weakest link- the points. For some reason carb'd KTM 950s went though points very fast, so this fellow created a solid state solution. I used these on my 950S (+30,000 miles) 950SM (+40,000 miles) 950 SE (+30,000 miles) with no issue.
