Camp, I had the same issue and was informed by a rep at The Retrofit Source that the VFR uses 7440, not 7443. From them:

"The reason why the switchback bulbs don't work is because you socket is actually a 7440 not a 7443. All 7443 plugs have four contacts, two power and two grounds which control the running light and turn signal function. Your two pin socket just controls the turn signal function power/ground. As you can see in the Osram OEM bulb guide here: http://www.philipsautolighting.com/bulb-lookup.php?make=67&model=3334&year=2007&trim=NULL. "

I found these on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008C9DINC/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And they work great. I'm very happy with the results.

Thank you for the info. It actually confirms what I'm planning to do. I ordered 3 wire (7443) pigtails and plan to wire the 3rd wire to switched power.

Along those lines I also ordered red/amber switchbacks for the rear and will run the 3rd wire to the brake. We'll see how that works. I've only got 5 more weeks till I go home for a week and I have ALOT of bike projects lined up!

what I ended up doing is replacing the 2 wire sockets front and rear with 3 wire sockets. For the rear turns I put in red/amber switchbacks with the center wire connected to the taillight brake light thus giving me additional red brake lights without addmore or other stuff and retain the amber turns.

For the fronts because of the marker light low amp current coming from parts unknown I ran lines from the rear turns to the front to operate the front turns as well. I installed white/amber switchbacks and the center wire of the 3 wire socket to switched/fused power giving me white drls (very bright I might add) with the amber turns working. The 4 way hazards don't work as I expected because of the rear to front bypass but I've never used them anyway. Note that yes, I have resistor harnesses at all 4 corners.

I'm pleased with the results and especially the extra brake lights without having to add any clutter.
