Hi everyone! As the title suggests I am replacing the right side engine/crankcase cover and on the left side the A.C. Generator cover. Just wondering if there is anything else I should be looking to replace or check while those covers are off? Thanks in advance!
When you remove the right crankcase cover, sometimes the dowel for the starter reduction gear will come with it and allow the gear to fall. Pretty sure that model does not have the spacer behind the gear (that will drop out and you don't realize) like the 86 VFR does, but just a heads up. Also a very good time since you're in that area to remove the starter, remove the end caps and flush the brush dust out with some electrical cleaner. And cross your fingers that most of the old gaskets come off with the covers. NorcalBoy swears by taking an old broken hack saw blade and grinding on a (one sided?) perpindicular edge. The material and flexibility make it a good candidate I presume. I use flat perpendicular blades in my X-Acto knives, but I'm gonna try the hack saw blade next time to experiment.
