Ok so last night when I got off work I went out to my bike and the battery died after 1 try with the starter. It is a brand new battery just put it in 2 weeks ago. This combined with the speedomoter acting funny has me worried. The speedo will work then the needle falls to 0 then comes back to the speed I am driving. Any ideas?

Yeah, You have the classic signs of the dreaded regulator/ rectifier problem.

Do you know how to test you voltage output?

So what are the odds that it is the regulator not the stater?

Well, you need to check the stator too, but if you are only getting 12.25 volts your RR is dead.

it's almost always the r/r, the stators don't go bad that often.

Your R/R is dead. You should be getting at least 13.5v or more at 5000.

Make sure you also check the connections to the R/R. They can fry, get dirty or just go bad.

Is it the original Honda R/R? No fins. Flat on both sides? Replace with either a Rick's Motorsport Electric version for about $140 or an original upgraded OEM Honda for about $240.
