OK so I knew the vfr had less storage than my last bike, but I can't even see where to put the owners manual under the seat! What do you do for storage? Any suggestions (other than use a backpack or get hard bags)???

Tank bag for anything bigger than a disc-lock. I managed to fit a couple of combination wrenches and an allen wrench, in a large ziploc, under the seat, but that's it.

OK maybe I'm not seeing where under the seat... even if I take those rubber band things off, I can't fit anything under the black bar. (according to page 89 in the manual)

I have the factory tool kit on the left side. Then the extension bar (6"), and a CO2 pump for fill a tire up, under the frame, and an allen kit, with a tire plug/patch kit, and a disc lock on the right side. But there is not anymore room in there. Kinda sucks, wish there was a bit more room. But Honda uses that Mono-backbone frame on the new vfr's, to support the added weight of the saddle bags and passenger.

If you don't have an ABS version you should have space near the front you can put stuff in.

So you have to like puzzle to get crap in and out from under the seat. If you take the rubber bands off, it is easier to practise in and out. Like Hondawolf says, stuff fits, but not like it used to. Maybe Honda not including the toolkit is part of a program to increase storage space?

turn the key to unlock it with your left hand, right hand on the back lip of the seat. pull the seat up and back. if the seat won't move, keep the key turned with your left hand and jiggle with your right....push the seat down to releave stress on the latch pulling up hard due to the prongs/clips pushing up.

    you'll get it. :thumb:

For day ride stuff - I use a fanny pack strapped around the rear seat. Mostly I just leave it there for - sun glasses, maps, helmut shield cleaner, cell phone, etc.

    for doing what Michel?
I like commuting with my hard topcase since the laptop bag and dress shoes fit nicely and it' water tight.
I like riding on the weekend with just a soft tankbag as I can get to stuff w/o dismounting.
Most passenger's I've had like the hard top case since there is something hard to lean against.
Most folks, including me, think the topcase looks silly, and the hardside cases look terrific.

You good buy a bunch of different pieces of soft stuff for the price of one hard case.

lots of other opinions on this in past posts

the soft bags are good for a cheap way to carry a small amount of stuf to and from work. I even get 3-4 bags of groceries in them. I paid 75 dollars for mine. way cheaper than hard bags.

I use an old Chase Harper magnetic tank bag (that expands quite a bit) for almost everything. That being said, I ordered a set of hard bags for a trip that I'll be taking at least once a month that is six hundred miles round trip.

If you want to securely lock your gear, then it is hard cases IMHO.

I don't think my aerostitch will fit in any size case as the pads are huge.

I have the TBR false pipe which provides excellent storage for small items including water and my jackets windbreaker liner.
