I can't imagine how many arms n legs they'll want for it if it comes to fruition!

Doesnt matter how much, if its lighter and more power, I'll be 1st in line.

I enjoy my 6th Gen. but these two factors are what I'm hoping for in a 7th Gen. (if it indeed comes)

Is it possible that the patent filings are for the R&D surrounding their Moto GP effort? The sketches of the bike look very racy to me. However, I would love to see a 7th Gen VFR.

The sketches of the bike's outline are almost irrelevant to the patent - the two part frame is the main point. the bike may also be offered in colors other than black and white.... though the white wall tire look might be back in, the chain is all wrong.

Umm...... I don't care what MCN says, I highly doubt that Honda will go through the effort of making a V-5 sports tourer. They got rid of the RC51 so I have no doubt they will be filling those shoes, and soon. Now there's nothing to say they won't have a replacement sports tourer coming in the future, but with a large number of VFR's selling for less than sticker the items and technology just seems overkill for it not to be a pure performance bike. Or maybe that's what I'm hoping it is. Who knows? I won't care if it is the new sport touring bike- it better have factory bags if it is or I won't touch it!

I'm the other side of the fence - I want the new viffer to be more purer sport but with enuff wind protection and 4th gen ergos. Skip the hard bag thing because of the extra weight structure that is needed (a.k.a. 6th gen). If I want a tourer with the hard bag route, I'll go to the ST1300 or FJR1300.

that's kinda where I am also. I really like the rumble of my v4 in my SPORT-touring bike. I really like the FJR if I decide to get a sport-TOURing bike. I have even been browsing around at them. I have the stable back down to 4 bikes now so I'm on the prowl. I have been instructed by the financial administrator that future purchases should wait until the garage (AKA bike haven (heaven?)) is completed...

I'll believe all the rumors once Nozzle tells me it's true. Until then, it's all internet hype to me. :)

Isn't it early in the year for this crazy talk to be coming up? We're not supposed to do this until August. Thats when you get all the rumors and spy photo pics and speculation.... Then Honda puts a new page on their website and gives a date for all the new models to be released online. Its really great when we get to see which sportbike Honda eliminates from the lineup each year and what color they decide to spray on the VFR to justify the $200 price increase!!!

If they make it more sporty it will bring the bike back to its roots, but then again that is what they have the CBR's for. If they make it less sporty, but more touring oriented then they run into the ST.

Just to stir up this nest of hornets again..today's MCN MOLE reports that the new VFR due to "debut" later in the year will feature a semi automatic gearbox and be likely to have an increase in capacity, and be Honda's "technological tour-de-force".

Also , see copy of an email I've sent to the editor Marc Potter regarding his editorial comments on ABS/CBS...

    Hi Marc,

I read your comments about traction control/ABS etc in today's issue.

I must disagree with you on some of your "experience" ..

You state " my last experience of using the Honda ABS/CBS system was when I stupidly opted to race a VFR at Cadwell in 1996 and the last memory I have is heading towards the marshal's post at the bottom of the mountain as the bike worked out if I was trying to make the corner or not... "

Point 1) In 1996 the VFR in question would have been a 750, which was fitted with regular brakes. CBS (combined braking system) was not fitted to any VFR until 1998, on the VFR800FW.

Point 2) CBS is not ABS, and ABS was not offered as an option on VFR's until 2002, on the VTEC model.

These are the kind of factual errors which lead many motorcyclists to consider your paper to be "a comic".

In addition , your recent issue featuring a profile of the VFR750 as a future classic stated in the text .."one nifty feature is the pillion grab rails which can be folded away under the seat when not in use" .

The bike pictured and presumably the subject of the article was the last 750, the FR-FV model. On this bike, the grab rails do NOT fold away.
Once again, going to the extent of highlighting a particular feature of the bike, whilst unfortunately completely incorrect.

You may guess that I own a VFR, and so have some insight into these bikes, but I am sure that others find their bikes similarly poorly treated.

A recent issue had a test on the new Guzzi Stelvio, which in my issue at least had the same copy repeated 3 times in the space of a double page spread, and then simply ended mid-test. I did notice you had printed an apology, but it's hardly rocket science to proof read your MAIN test.

I always have, and will continue to purchase the MCN regardless of these ever increasing episodes, but there is something to be said for the old chestnut "quality over quantity..."

    Rod
