So I am at work debating on if a honda hurricane can keep up with my baby. I have mixed results in the betting on which is faster...Can someon please put this to rest and tell me if a 2007 VFR is any faster than a 1989 Honda hurricane 1000. Yes, Im fuel injected and he is carborated...so please someone let me know....

I had a friend who had a 1987 Hurricane. He said he had it up to 175. you know, what I believe him, Bike was very fast. probably would smoke a 2007VFR. I don't know about the pick up (HOLESHOT)
it had carburetors. but disp 998cc should have had more HP than vfr, too.

I had an '87 Hurricane 600 and I would even say that the 600 would give our beloved VFR a run for its money.

I don't know, I've ridden them and all that I can say is:

    600 - a DOG
    1000 - somewhat less of a dog

I'd think the 07 VFR would beat it unless the CBR had some work done to it.

His bike has the fairings held on with bungee straps...I have just went up 2 teeth on my back sprocket, gutted exhaust, and K and N filter. I was only planning on running him with a 0-90 mph trap speed. I know I cant keep up with him on the top end, I just did not want to get to talking shit and get smoked by a 54 year old on a 1989...We are planning on running them on our lunch break....I will let you know the verdict...thanks...killer

I had a 1991 CBR1000f and it is definitely a faster bike, however the torque on the VFR is higher so you may beat him to 50-60, I think he will be walking away at 90. the VFR is easier to launch thats where you will have to make up the difference.

A buddy of mine has a '90 CBR1000F, completely OEM stock. I can easily pull away from him from a stop and from a rolling run starting at 50 mph I can steadily walk away from him on my '07, I backed off at 135 (indicated) so i don't know about a full top end comparison.

I haven't compared the numbers, but by gut feel, my '86 VF1000R has more motor every where compared to my '07 RWB. The 1000R has significantly more low end.

To make a long story short...I was moved to a new department and shift @ my job. With in the first 2 days a older man with a older 1000 hurricane made the statement to a friend of mine that "there aint a bike at this factory that can keep up with mine" being the true motor head that I am I accepted the challenge...Now since we have yet to race it has built up to involve close to 30 people making bets and what not as to who will win. I kept my mouth closed, since I have been handed my ass before. He continues to say I better "get a new engine if I think I can keep up" So the race is totally on now!!! It will be a local straight stretch...I am not planning on breaking 125 mph...Just a short blast to see if hes all he says he is...I will be ok if I loose, but after the bragging from him...All I want to do now is let him see what a VFR can really do....I will post the results next WED. since that is the day it will happen....later

Man, that sounds just like high school again! I remember back when I was in school, there was a car that everyone considered "the fastest car in the school." It was always a huge deal when someone would challenge for the title (so to speak). Ahh, those were the days....

Shouldn't you add the words "feels like" in there? My 1000's feel like they have more motor than my VTR. It's actually pretty close from a straight power perspective, but once you consider the 150lb+ weight difference it's obvious who wins.

So you think I can pull this off...I really need to save my ego from anymore damage....I do know he outweighs me by a easy 50lbs...I am pushing 160 while he is a easy 200...also...any tips on launching this thing off the line...where ought I rev it to before takeoff....I need some experienced advice, not someone telling me to give it hell and dump the clutch...this has really turned into an event...with money changing hands and all....wow...if only I didnt have all those pictures of my VFR glued to my computer....OH to bask in the glory of outrunning a trash talking squid...Is there anything better??

You should be quicer from standing still up to maybe 90mph but then will his bigger engine show it´s power. But don´t think about it go for the race and have fun.

Yeah, I dunno but his bike is old.
I believe most VFR's are capable of low 11 second quarter mile times.
So what if his Hurricane was capable of 10.87 back in the day -
(when Bush senior was in office) That was a long time ago.
If he does beat you it should still be pretty close.
Bungee cords holding his fairing on... I'm not impressed.
Maybe his bike will blow up in the first 100 feet.
    That would be sweet!
Launch as smoothly as you can keep your head down and weight back and shift at 11k.
Good luck to you and stay safe.
