Well, My wife and i found a great 83 vf750f and picked it up around Memorial Day. After troubleshooting some electrical issues, we were quite happy with our new bike.

so, after a few short neigborhood rides, and one ride with a friend, i took it to work.

on the way home i pulled an inexperienced rider maneuver and wound up putting the bike under an oncoming car. :frown:

now it looks more like this:

It likely would have been a low-side slide, that i could have shaken off and ridden away from except it went directly under the Jeep Cherokee. i am pretty sure the frame is bent. the forks and fork crown are bent and broken, the front brakes are shot, the tank is beat up, etc, etc...

So now i will be looking for some info/advice from you guys as to whether the frame is repairable, or if it's shot. if it's shot, i'll be parting out the rest of the bike, if the frame can be safely repaired then, then i've got some shopping to do.

sorry to enter your forums this way, i had hoped for a better introduction. In other news, the rider is fine: protective gear rocks!

This look´s bad. First of all. ARE YOU OK???? No broken bones or other nothing???
I think it is not good idea to fix your bike, it is way to expensive. try to find another one and use this one for parts. Sorry but this is just the way it is...
Hope you are ok your self, that is what is worth the most.

    ouch that's a shame bro..
and get yourself checked out by the doc...the shock of a fall can make injuries not seem bad.
i think your bike is a write off...hopefully you had insurance, if not it would be fixable but will take alot of time and $$.

Glad you are ok! Yes that looks pretty bad. I would probably just be looking for another viffer. Say, what brand/type of protective gear were you wearing?

Sorry to hear about your accident, but I am glad to know that at least from your statements yuo are not seriously hurt or are uninjured.

It's gonna be expensive to fix that one not that it can't be done, but it will take time and some money as some parts will have to be obtained used and can be difficult to find. The advice above about finding another is sound. If you found another of the same year (or maybe an 84) you might be able to use this one as a parts bike for the replacement. Again, glad you came away from it reasonably unscathed, because you, as a person, are not replaceable.

Welcome to the forum Couteau. I am sorry to hear of your mishap. I agree with the others about it would be cheaper (& much easier) to find another VF(R) to replace it.

Whoa - that ones a damn shame. Looks like it was well cared for. It had a fork brace and a top end oiling kit. My guess is a few other trick parts too.

Glad your ok - but your bike is a write-off.

    Protective gear:
    scorpion EXO 700 helmet
    Scorpion hat trick jacket
alpinestar SMX gloves with CF knuckles
"lucky jeans" (weak link--my knees hurt)

All in all i'm ok, thanks for asking. i got rid of the bike in time to tumble behind the car. thank god no more were coming.

i figured that with the frame damage the bike was a write off. it had clearly been beat up before, but not this bad (you can see it was originally the blue/white scheme). but i definitely got the biking bug. and i'm a fan of the early vintage interceptor.

I'll be posting up parts here first as they are available, but if anyone needs something specific (other than a front end) let me know.

    Thanks again!

How unfortunate, I went down on my very first turn on a public road, I low sided and the bike slid about 15-20 feet. But, the worst that happened was my scraped up upper fairing and scratched exhaust pipe.

I just saw a frame on ebay yesterday for sale. Plus tank and other stuff you may need. There is a guy local to me that has a good tank, tail section etc that he's going to put on ebay. Here's his e-mail

    ALAN BUCY [car.guy60@yahoo.com]

I think I saw your bike for sale on the net. Did you get it from there? If not there's another one painted the same color as yours. Good luck.

    Glad your ok.
