greetings to those that know. heres the question...

i revived my 86 RWB 750 that ive owned for 12 years again this spring and have been commuting 3-4 days a week approx 40 miles a day to beat the high gas $ this summer. i have an almost perfect commute that includes about 4 miles of backroads to a perfect slab going the wrong way during off hours. the bike runs perfect and eats it up very comfortably and is returning almost 50 MPG.

but... i have started thinking that the bike is just too nice and desireable to be risking it daily and just piling on the miles. it has just over 15k miles on the clock and is in near mint condition. it gets MUCH attention from anyone that knows anything about VFRs.

i have located a G6 in my area that SEEMS to be a great deal. an 03 silver ABS 2nd owner that has less than 2500 on the clock. all stock except for heli bars and a smoked ZG windscreen, with the title and all orig items still in hand. i have not laid eyes on it yet, but the guy describes it as almost perfect. no scrapes, bruises or excuses according to the dude. it seems he owns his own biz, has no time to ride, and is most likely strapped for cash in this economy. he has it listed for $6200 and i would guess that 6k cash would seal a deal.

$6k is a little more than i would like to spend, but i think it would be ALOT of bike for the $. i have been looking pretty hard for several months for a ZRX-1200, but nobody is letting go of any decent ones that i can find. i was hoping to spend approx $4.5k for a really nice z-rex, but i dont see any popping up unless maybe waiting until the xmas bills start showing up in the dead of next winter.

whadda ya think? thanks in advance. - ThrillBilly the hillbilly

That's about what they are going for in California, with 7K-10K on them.

Gorgeous bike, BTW. I can see why you want to limit the miles.

My dream bike! You are a very smart hombre, get yourself a G6 and keep that sweet ride for fun.

Six months ago I would have told you 6K is too much for that 03- but now, the values are up a great deal, and it sounds fair. I bought my 03 last year with 2100 miles, perfect condition (except for the OEM Dunlops which had turned to stone) and was quite happy to pick it up for $4500 cash. No ABS on mine though- so that, plus the locale and demand factors, means 6K ought to be a fair deal.

That 86 is great!!! Be careful though.... in about 15 years you're going to have to limit miles on the 03. By then we'll be lucky if people even remember what an Interceptor is!!!

That '86 is classic. All in all, I'd say that $6200 is a pretty fair deal. I bought my '05 two months ago for $7200(all stock+heated grips, 2000 miles). I've also seen one sell around here in the last week for $8000. The value is going up on bikes with gas being so expensive.
